I've got the following bracket to hook my marquee up to the chief mount:
The chief sits off-center of the bracket, roughly in-between the two cross-bars. You can see from the picture that the front of the projector would be on the left end of the bracket.
I'd like to mount it the other way, such that the front end would point towards the right end of the bracket. This will give me more wiggle room for mounting, about 8 inches, which will help quite a bit with hitting the proper TD.
Is it safe to do this? Has anyone done this before? The chief install pdf doesn't state that it MUST be this way.

I think the idea is to balance the center of gravity as the lenses are quite front heavy.

Yep. If tghe pivot is on the wrong side of the CG the mount will be too weak to hold the tilt, at least.
