We had a CRT meet a few years ago in Dallas at a members house who had I believe a modded Barco 1209. Of course it threw a very nice picture but IMO my D50's is at least 85% as good for much less cost. I picked up a spare D50 with 1600 hours a few months ago off of CL for $160 so they are out there for cheap. I now have no worries about the amount of time my son plays Wii and PS3 on the PJ. I included a few pictures of the table I built for mine as ceiling mounting was not a good option.

Hey Drice,
That thing HT of yours is uber sweet. You should add some pics to your user profile. My HT may/May not be picture worthy when finished, though if it is, expect to see a quicktime VR I live in a 600 sq ft. studio, so I have to live my tech life as if I live aboard the space shuttle. I did come up with a clever place for my 1020, I'm going to put it at the foot of my bed pointed at the ceiling so that movies can be enjoyed in bed laying face up at the ceiling. I've done it once before and it was triple D dope. I'll just have to mod it to cool properly at that angle, I'm sure they were never intended to fire UPwards.)
I actually have a plan to ceiling mount this thing now, otherwise the PJ has to sit SMACK in the middle of my bedroom/living room/kitchen. I think I'm going to lag a 2X12 across the ceiling joists, try to span at least 5 or 6 of them, and then mount the PJ to the 2X12, distibuting the load across a few joists. Maybe generate some truss work for the hell/look of it.
I love the life out of my D50, I Watched a few BDs on this thing, (Friend's sony BD player, res at 720p) and it looked GREAT. I realize how badly I need a scaler for the Standard Def stuff. The rgb/gamma from my HT PC and BD were very nice, however when I use the composite and Y/C for my VHS (I'LL NEVER GIVE IT UP!!!!!) and my Laser Disc (you can have it if you can pry it from my cold dead fingers.) the gamma goes to hell,as well as the scan line fesitval that occurs. I have an old 12ax7/gl6l6 powered tube stereo head, and when I watch my copies of the stars wars trilogy on laser disc, I run the audio through the tube amp and sweet lord, there's never been a container manufactured that could hope to contain the audible extravaganza. (Tube amp + analog audio = EARgasm) and I'm setting up my 5.1 with my collection of studio montitors that I don't use, and custom built sub (before I was an cathodephile, I was an audiophile) In a few months when thsi rig is complete, I woudln't be surprized if this thing strikes FEAR into the hearts of digital projector owners.
Oh, and my friend that provided the BD player saw the glorious image from my slightly out of cal projector, and he's on the market for a crt now. He just payed far out the a** for a sony dlp HT projector, and was floored when he saw the crt. He was really floored when I told him I had less the 200 bones in my projection rig (1020 included) He caught the disease. HAHAHAHAHA

If you didn't catch it the D50 has a builit in line doubler that makes SD material look OK. Check and make sure that you have it turned on. I think it is on the 2nd setup page.

Did all D50's come stock with the built in line doubler or just the HTU versions?

My D50 is not the HTU version and it does not have the doubler.

My d50 is sans the doubler. I've heard that the internal line doubler is not the greatest quality anyway. Are there any surround receivers that have scalers built in?

Just about all of them today have some sort of scalling. Just be sure the reciever doesn't JUST have 1080P output. That's no good for the D50, it needs 1080i. Also some of the receivers will only output over HDMI. Then you would need an HDFury2 at the projector to complete the HDMI link, or if you DON'T have the D50HTU version and your's has the slot for the IFB card then you can go for a Moome card. Either way it will work.
Do your homework though and know what you a are buying.

Just found the scaler function in my sony receiver, but it's older, it only does 480i through the component. TIME TO UPGRADE HAHAHA.
I have a non htu version with the IFB, I was looking into those Moome cards, just to up my PJ's sex appeal.

Question, does the HDFury2 need to be at the projector for the D-50 or can it be placed at the source device and then be run to the pj with coax cable and bnc connectors to the RGBHV connections?

HDFury2 will drive up to 35 feet or RGBHV cable.
HDFury1 needs to be at the projector. ( no output driver )
If you need a longer distance you would need a BUF2000 or a GammaX. Both of those are rated to drive 50+ feet or cable.

Will the HDFury2 do 35 feet easil, or should I use one of the other options if I'm getting close to 35 feet?
