Wow, that's not many... or is it? I would have guessed more for some reason. How many 9500's, 1209's/ Cine9's are out there?
Please forgive the following question but...
Just how much better is the G90 compared to a 9500 Ultra or a 1209/ Cine9, or even an AmPro 4600? Is it really that much better or is it simply because they are hard to find, or do Sony G90 owners just like to stick to their Sony's?
If you set up a G90, Marquee 9500LC ultra, Barco 1209s, Cine9, Ampro 4600 (assuming all were in mint condition and set up by a pro and calibrated) would you really see a difference? Has anybody ever used more than 1 of these sets in the same place?
If my budget would allow it, I'd personally like to get a 9" LC machine, but I've never been able to tell by reading all the documentaion and posts how close the best 9" machines are. On paper they all look very similar.
I love reading about Cliff's G90 stack, but I wonder, if you swapped them out with a stack of any of the big 9"ers, would his setup be any less impressive?
Cheers,
Chris

I dunno about the Marquee or the ampro. but i have experience w/ the 90 and the Runco DTV1200. They are Very VERY close. If i had a preference i'd choose a 90 stack (blend is my real preference). But i'd be as happy as a pig in slop w/ a Barco/runco blend. I found the color on the 90 a bit more vibrant.

I really don't think this appropriate for this thread, as they are in a pickle trying to save the G90s. I would start a new thread to ascertain everyones views. Of course that being said, I don't think the G90 is worth a price premium over the other 9" pjs

I see what you mean, I'll start a thread on it. Didn't mean to hijack the thread or anything , I'm just trying to understand...

The big question! Does anyone have an estimate as to what a reasonable cost to duplicate the controller chip would be?

"Sony relations"
To all you poor G-90 owners, I think Sony is having relations with your back-sides. Pucker up...

Well I got my final email from my last Sony contact today. Here's what it said:
Hi Ron,
I'm truly sorry to inform you that the IC I've been researching on your behalf has no technical data and no substitute available.
FYI, not only have I attempted to get this information but my manager has tried as well.
Please accept my apologies,
Seth

I have one more lure in the water but I'm not confident I'll even get a nibble.
So, unless some company has a box of these hiding somewhere that they bought from Sony as dead stock, the outlook is grim. Someone would have to spend some time to try to retrieve the data on the chip or send a chip to a company that specializes in retrieving data from possible secure chips.
Or have a chip and the software designed, based off the original schematic and function of the circuit.........Did someone say 10's of thousands????????????????????????

Does that mean we will have more 400lb+ Sony paper-weights in the future?

I guess I'll just be happy with my inferior, P.O.S. good for nothing but turns on every time I push the button AmPro.
BTW I'm glad it didn't make Kals list. Thanks for keeping the price down.

FYI, my Japanese friend just replied me and said that he may be able to get some info about this chip directly from Sony LSI company EE engineers. We'll see...

I hope they can come through for us. Its like a feeding frenzy out there for used G90's....even broken ones with unknown problems.

Wow, I am going to assume that Sony did not deliberately name their Product support center the P.O.S.Center....

""Or have a chip and the software designed, based off the original schematic and function of the circuit.........Did someone say 10's of thousands????????????????????""
From the service manual I have seen this chip is just a "black hole" - the page where it should
be is 'missing' (eg. simply not there), and there are no pinouts - and no way to trace the functions
in the schematic....
Hope you guys can find some info -
