... as in the "true blacks" side! Purchased my first CRT projector, a Vidikron Vision One. I'm really excited, I have no idea what I'm doing, and I can't wait to get started! Needless to say, you'll probably be seeing me around a bit.
The purchase also came with a Chief motorized lift mount, and a Vidikron Faroudja scalar, which apparently was meant to be paired with the pj, but I'm guessing it's not so great by today's standards (and I have a DVDO Edge anyway).
Green tube shows the most wear - I'd say about a 7. Red and Blue I can't see any wear at all.
I know what I'm doing this weekend, and it ain't the super bowl.

Sweet, another V1 owner! I have a thread entitled "my vidikron one adventure (noob), that I started just recently. Has some info I've found very helpful.
What are the hours on the projector?
What is the chassis number?
What lenses does it have?

I thought "You Suck" was reserved for an especially good deal for a pj. Also, there can be no You Suck without pics

Geeze and I thought a Sony 1252 was a good starter projector. You skipped the 1979 Toyota Corola, you skipped mom's 15 year old hand me down Chevy and went strait to the Ferari. Don't crash now.
Congradulations!

Thanks all. I'm truly excited, and a bit overwhelmed.
DrKnow: it has the GT17 lenses. I think the hours are in the 5000's (I wrote it down when I first saw the pj last weekend and I don't remember now - my notes are at home). I suspect the tubes have been replaced at least once and the counter reset.
I don't know the chassis number. Can you tell me where to find it?
The ferrari case is a flat black. It's got some scratches and a few chips in the lens hood. Should be repairable. I'm thinking about spray painting it a different color - maybe a pearlescent white (oooh). I can take pics, but it's not much to look at right now. The innards look really clean. No dust - looks like new. The tubes look like they might be showing some early signs of "fungus" - there's some funky crystallized gunk sitting at the bottom of the red and blue c-elements (is that the right term?).
BTW, anyone know anything about the Vidikron DVS-5500 scalar? I believe it to be a re-badged Faroudja DVP-5000. Decent scaler or stone-age?

LOL! The important thing is that I now have this cool toy to play with, not how much I spent on it... right?

True, but how much you spent has a direct impact how much you SUCK!

Sweet. Get it set up, learn, use it, enjoy it, then slap a green tube in there at some later time, and you'll have yourself one hell of a machine!
Very cool. We'll be expecting a few pics this weekend when you tear into it and get the lenses off and start playing around!

I probably won't have time to fiddle with it until the weekend, but I did manage to take some pictures tonight. So here's some CRT porn for y'all:
The beast all together minus the lenses (which we removed for transport/carrying).
View from top. It has some ugly scratches and some even uglier gashes on the front, hopefully repairable.
One of the lenses
Red tube - looks good, though notice the cooties at the bottom. What is that?
Green tube with noticeable wear
Blue tube - you can't see it in the pic but it has very faint signs of wear. And some cooties.
Open case. The model number has a -98 on the end. Does that indicate the build year?
Zoom in on the innards. Fairly clean inside.
The scaler that came with the pj. Front view.
Back view of scaler.
The motorized lift mount.

This Might also be an Ultra Model, Notice on the VDm the Red Film Caps, those are Wimas,Aslo allt he caps are black not the standard light blue used in moce VDM/CVA/SWA boards, I think those also signify ultra set. if they have some external wires on the boards they are ultra boards. Also in the HDM you can see one of the Blue Flim caps is rounded, another Wima used on the Ultra HDM.
if its an Ultra the you really DO SUCK !!!

hmm, well the scalar that came with my pj is "vidikron" but after looking around I think it's just a re-badged Faroudja DVP-5000, which came out around 2000/2001. It's likely the pj and scaler were purchased together, in which case it probably is an Ultra (Ultra is 1998 and later, right?)
But enough of that... isn't there a sure-fire way to tell, at least the build date?

The chassis number is under the big xray shield with the yellow label visible in the big photo ^.
http://www.etechvideo.com/techtip4.htm has the chassis numbers that will tell you if it's an ultra

Oh, well that was easy. It's in the first picture of the open case: 38-P15298-98. According to etechvideo that makes it an Ultra. Sweet!
