What brand and resolution is the LCD panel? 15.4 inch seems small for a 1080P panel.
Is it 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. If it's the latter can it correctly display 1080P leterboxed within the panel or does it stretch to fit as most do?
What is the input on the panel? VGA or DVI or both? If it's DVI-D does it have HDCP compatibility?
What type of light bulb is that?
What type of culminating lenses are those? Plastic or glass?
Who makes the projection lens and what's the focal length and f/stop?
Are those first surface mirrors? If not are they at least optical grade? Who makes them?

its a 1920x1200 but the LCD controller im going to be getting will support 1920x1080 1:1 pixel mapping
the bulb is a 575 watt metal halide lamp (6500k colour)
the lenses are 330 FL glass fresnel lenses
and the lens is a 320 FL projector lens from lumenlabs.com
(not sure of the f/stop)
and yes im going to be using FS mirrors hopefully having 94%+ light reflection
EDIT:
oh and the panel has Component DVI VGA s-video RCA and HDMI
(im using a pixelworks 338 controller (http://diyprojectorkits.com/welcome/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage-ask.tpl&product_id=94&category_id=10&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=85))

How will you be treating the inside of the box for stray light? What are the specs for the LCD panel you'll be using?

Well there you go. I asked some questions.
Good answers.
I was going to build one of these 3 years ago. Then I discoverd this web site and CRT front projection. Better picture than LCD and black is black not grey. Still it looks like a fun project if you have the time for it.
Who makes the LCD panels? VGA or DVI-D or both? HDCP?

the panel is a laptop LG LCD
(and yes my passion is CRT projection as well, I just feel like building something haha)
not quite sure of the contrast ratio and refresh rate etc...

What will the connection to the panel be analog VGA or Digital DVI?

the light will actuallt be blocked off entirely except for the light path you see...
i will probably put a condensing lens infront of the lamp aswell to better direct the light
(PS: answers to the inputs have been edited on my previous post)

I have a lens from a Lumenlab kit that I had purchased some time ago. I will donate it to your cause for the cost of shipping if you need it. I don't recall which lens it was. I also have the metal halide bulb and ballast if your interested in them but I would need some cash for them. (They were not cheap)

I'll be flamed, but here is one: don't bother. These types of homemade PJs look like crap. You can get a good used 720p digital that will look FAR better than this. I've done shoot-outs between (better than this) low end 1080p LCD PJs and very good 720p DLP PJs and the good 720p beats the bad 1080p everytime. Resolution isn't everything boys!!!!

In fact, resolution is about the LEAST important thing (assuming you have at least 720p). Contrast, accurate primary colours is far more important.
Hey Dave! Glad to see you back!

But where's the fun in taking something out of a box and having it work automatically? I could see this as being more about the build than the final product...

Building both my home built projectors was a blast! One was made of wood, and the other was a retro fit of a 90's table top projector. Like Ben said the build is a blast and the fact that I can get 10,000 hours out of a $25 bulb is priceless . If you're interesting in seeing my setups check out both pages of this posting.

True, but an interest in home theater is usually an interest in watching movies well presented, not a "DIY trumps quality persuit." If DIY is more important to you than quality, then yes; but I must say, that is a very odd approach to home theater!
