Probably a JVC RS20: http://www.aboutprojectors.com/JVC-DLA-RS20-projector.html

Great primary colour control and everything else good other than the true black level (which isn't really that bad). MSRP $7500.

But I haven't really researched any of this since I'm happy with what I have.

The post was an attempt to understand what one could and could not afford in terms of getting 1080P out of a CRT budget. Of course pixel resolution is only one factor and as such this thread focusing only on that one dimension.

I would love to get a CRT projector that I could afford that could do 1080P.

Really? You must have a damn big room! 7000 ANSI lumens would give you about 150 fL on a 16-foot wide screen. You could go to a 32x18-foot screen and still have almost 40 fL. You'll especially enjoy the 1000:1 contrast ratio, too. The only good thing is that you won't need a furnace, anymore. Wink

I'd go for an RS-20 if we're talking within the realm of sanity, or if I won the lottery, maybe one o' them DPI or Planar machines. Or, hell, maybe one 'o them 4k Sony SXRD machines...

'Course, I'd need a new house to put it in...

My first "projector" was a 3m overhead with an LCD Panel. That baby did 12,000 lumens and it was great for day time viewing, but destroyed any remote chance of showing black. Fortunatly it had a lower setting I always used, but still made most digitals I've seen look much closer to blacks.

I would probably go for a good DLP or the JVC. Crabb mentioned the 4k Sony. Next time I drop by VDC to see Scott, I will try to check it out. Scott says it is impressive. Still no black though.
