It has been awhile and this kind of got under my skin a little. Monster unveils uber expensive cables. Noel Lee does it again. I do like the article though for taking Monster to task. Of course, Monster must have little trolls running around to snuff out all negative Monster talk. Check out the comments section. A Monster rep signed up and tries to put out the flames. I love his comment comparing the difference between Monster and cheap cables is like the difference between Apple and Gateway laptops. I threw this in mostly to ecrabb boiling , but give me a break comparing Apple to Monster. Whatever one may think of Apple, they at least give some value for the money and offer something unique. How is the Monster HDMI cables better than the Blue Jean's branded Belden cables? Ok, you got me. They are faster.

It's sad that more people will spend money on overpriced cables chasing picture improvement of 5% or less instead of getting their display calibrated and realizing a gain of 20 - 70 % in color error alone. Heck, pop in a disc with a THX optimizer in it and follow the instructions and you'll probably gain more improvement than any cable will give you.

I swear there are enough ignorant people out there with money that you could sell cables costing $0.10/foot to make for $100/foot and call them SnakeOil Cables.

What was funny is I was at the Gennum booth, a chip manufacturer. That $1800 100 foot HDMI Monster cable is active, and uses a Gennum chipset to drive the signal that length. Beside the Monster cable was a Gefen HDMI to RGBHV receiver/transmitter box, that uses RGBHV cable to run the same length, at a far lesser price.
I had to laugh when the Gennum rep asked me if I'd rather run the thicker RGBHV cable inside a house wall, or the thinner MOnster cable at about 4X the price... if the house might have a rodent problem down the road. Who was going to tell the customer that he would need a new $1800 Monster cable when the little bastards chewed through the thinner HDMI cable?

If you think that rodent's might be a problem, then wouldn't you be better off with the less expensive cable and quartely pest control?
