Whoah - very cool. I hadn't seen that, yet. Looks very cool. Could work well for the OP, too as you wouldn't need to dedicate a PC to making recordings. If you needed to stay HDMI to the rest of the system, you could use an HDMI splitter, take one HDMI drop and go to the HD Fury 2, out component, and into this box...

Would you be able to go HD Fury 2 SPDIF to the Mivx box, to capture in-game surround audio? I can't remember what the PS3 is outputting via HDMI during in-game surround audio... and I don't know what would come out the SPDIF on the HDF2.

FWIW, my Hauppauge HD PVR fis finally working again... after the 4th uninstall/reboot/reinstall cycle.

2 things I did different:
- ran a utility on the install CD called hcwclear.exe which is supposed to clean all WinTV stuff out of the registry
- didn't install the updated driver yet... I wonder if that'll break it again.

I haven't read much about the mivx yet... I just came across it while looking for troubleshooting tips on the hauppauge

Bit's $100 more, but it have HDMI out and accomodates a SATA drive. I paid $99 for the WD .TS HDMI player (which I really haven't played with much), so the price is comparable.

My favorite feature of the hauppauge though is the arcsoft software that burns the AVCHD files to blu-ray format on DVDR. I'd want to make sure that the mivx did something similar.

Did the driver update... still works.

I hate erratic failures that magically start working just as mysteriously as they magically stopped working.

Oh... one more pet peeve of mine about capturing from the PS3...

AFAICT, the component output and HDMI output can't be active at the same time on the PS3. So to capture on the PVR, I have to go to the PS3 control panel and switch Display to component 1080i, which takes about 12 clicks and confirmations.

Switching back to HDMI is easier, because when you cycle power on the PS3, it comes up (in 480p) and says "we've discovered a HDMI connection, do you want to use it?"

Oh... another pet peeve.

When I'm recording from my cable box to the hauppauge, it'll also record OSD pop-ups from the 2nd tuner.... like "HD recording started" and "HD recording finished".

But back to the original topic, the Hauppauge HD PVR with component input would work perfectly for capturing PS3 gameplay via 1080i or 720P component.

I've had one for about a month and really like it. It made a wicked 1080i AVCHD demo disc from Blu-Ray clips.

Clarence let me us some dvds he made. Very nice (chapters, etc...) and excellent quality.

I want to walk down and see how those look on your system.

I'm interested in seeing how the 1080i AVCHD looks when played back at 720@72Hz.

Oh yeah, that's pet peeve #3 of mine... the PS3 will convert/upscale a SD DVD at 1080p, but it won't deinterlace the 1080i homemade BD to 1080p... plays back at 1080i.

Embarassed Embarassed The ht is a mess. Currently putting put the linacustic and re-wiring some lights. I'm off all next week (it's about dog-gone time!!) but hope to have the ht in some kind of good condition by this weekend.

Did you find some good wall fabric?

Hmmm... any plans to paint your NEC's case?

Paint the case I have the Runco 900 version sitting here and the dark grey looks better than the computer beige.

Thanks for the offer on the tools. I "justified" the purchase of an air stapler and a second compressor to "build the HT"!!!

Wife said, fine.... Laughing (Luckily, I purchased a bunch of cool-tools to build the HT with the wifes approval.)

Got some fabric from JoAnns. We had to order it as there was only 4 yards left on the roll they had. So, I'll have to wait 2-3 weeks.

We picked the pattern on the far right. It should match the carpet and brown trim on the walls.

As for the case, I'd like to paint it, but just haven't put much thought into it. If you have any ideas, let me know when you come over.

Clarence,
I got the ht back in some what decent shape, or will have by Tuesday evening. Stop by if you want and take a look at the Linacustic and wall fabric work we've done so far.

Also, we can take a look at those dvds.

By chance, would have happened to have gotten the Tom Petty specials on SoundStage? It was on tonight (Monday) but I didn't find out till the Part 1 was almost over.
