Someone was talking about a mini version of XP all stripped out of all the fluff. Anyone know what this is called? I think someone said they had a version on their wifes laptop and all it lacked was dialup support.
I was thinking of trying a mini install of XP, a cut down version of Nero, Omega drivers for the ATi card and PowerDVD ultra.
Anyone know what that version is called? I'll see if I can find it here locally.

There is Windows XP Embedded, but I think you have to be an OEM to get it. I worked with it on the blue berry packing machine.

I would go a cut-down Vista over a cut-down XP.
The audio is better in Vista.

Analogue 100% - both audio and video.

That looks very cool, save for the fact that I don't usually stand at my display. Put that technology in a small handheld device and they'll really have something. Oh, that's right - Apple already has it - the iPhone. 
No seriously - that looks neat. If you could do that in a remote, it would be awesome.

If you continue to use your blinders, SC, the horse is gonna get mad. 
How about taking something like a nifty Palm Pre (something 'like it') and running MC7 on it and use it as a whole house controller? If they could converge MC7 with WM7 it would be interesting to test.
BTW, the download servers offering up Windows 7 Beta for free have crashed under the load of fever-ridden folks. Even the blog site for Windows 7 crashed under usage. I have no idea if those servers were running M$, but it would be amusing.

I don't know what all the fuss about Vista is...it works really well for me.
You bought 3 xp licenses....why the hell would you do that? Are you thinking of starting a home office?

There is a program called Nlite that you can use to "shrink" XP. I think there is also a version for Vista. Nlite uses the install disk for XP to create a new install disk that only has the features you need. I used it on my EEE PC to make an XP install that only required 600meg installed with only the features I needed. It boots and runs much quicker.
It's better to do it this was as you don't need to rely on some downloaded virus filled version.

I don't remember how long it took to install.
Here is an example of someone using Nlite to shrink down XP Pro. The EEEuser forum has many example so this being done.
