I have the 27" 3:4 aspect ration one at my office. it ok, i can see the shadow mask since i sit 3 feet from it. it has a slight curve in the grid near the top and bottom. I could probably fix that thru a service menu but don't want to mess with it. I would like to buy a 30" 1.78 aspect ratio one if i could find them anymore.
have a lead on them?

There was one locally on CL. I think it's gone now as I can't find the listing. There was another brand of slim CRT's that were suposedly better than the Samsungs. I just can't remember the name of them.

When I was researching direct view sets I saw a lot of mixed reviews on the Samsungs. They seemed more likely to have geometry issues and were less reliable than the comperable Sony sets though they are smaller. This was last year when I was looking for a direct view CRT based HDTV. I ended up getting a Sony 30HS420 which I am very happy with other than its massive overscan which I will get around to correcting one day....

Yeah I hear you on the over scan issue. It's a PITA. Especialy to those of use that like to run HTPC's.
I just picked up a Toshiba 30HF85C, nice picture. I have the XBox360 hooked up to it. Not so great on regular cable.
That's where Sony's Digital Reality Creation comes in handy. My mother has a nice 4:3 Sony 32" KV-32HS500 WEGA and watching analog cable on it is incredible!

I was looking around CL for a cheap HD tv while I am here in Miami. I had to laugh as everyone wants outrageous prices for these tubes. My biggest problem is finding a tv with a digital tuner built in.
