I just got a Sony BD-350 Blu-Ray. I have been running 720p out to my Barco 1208 and have been happy with that so far.
Here are my setup options as I see them for adding the Blu-Ray in the mix:
1) If I stick to running my Barco at 720p:
a. Should I set the output of the component connected Sony BD-350 Blu-Ray to 720p and let the Sony scale from 1080p to 720p - bypassing any scaling by the Lumagen?
b. Or, set the output from the Sony at 1080i and let the Lumagen scale down it to 720p?. This option is less preferable to me as there is multiple scaling going on - (Sony 1080p -> 1080i -> Lumagen 1080i ->720p).
c. The Sony won't upscale old DVD's with component connection. I don't see this as an issue, as the Lumagen would upscale them to 720p or 1080i. Would I be missing any quality because the Sony is not upscaling?
2) If I run the Barco at 1080i - the Sony would then scale 1080p to 1080i. For old DVD's, the Lumagen would upscale to 1080i.
3). If I want to run the Barco at 1080p, I would have to run this configuration: Bluray--HDMI.to.DVI.cable--->Lumagen------DVI.to.HDMI.cable----->HDFury2=5BNC.breakout. cable==>BNC.to.BNC.couplers===>RGBHV.cable====>projector. No scaling would take place on the Lumagen.
Of the three options above, I don't think option 3 is worth doing - do you?

Here's what I do with my Toshiba HD-A1, Lumagen VisionHDP, and Sony VPH-1292Q...
HD-A1 ---[1080i @ 60Hz component video]---> VisionHDP ---[1080p @ 48Hz or 60Hz RGBHV]---> 1292Q
I'd say run the Blu-ray player at 1080i and have the VisionHDP reconstruct the progressive frames and scale them down to 720p @ 48Hz or 72Hz for 24fps content and 720p @ 60Hz for 30fps content. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the VisionHDP can reconstruct progressive frames for display at 48Hz or 72Hz if they've already been deinterlaced to 720p @ 60Hz by the Blu-ray player. If you're not running a vertical refresh rate that's a multiple of the frame rate then why even have a VisionHDP? That's one of the major benefits of the VisionHDP -- eliminating frame judder in film-based content associated with 60Hz (assuming NTSC).
I also have a VisionDVI and Runco IDP-980 in a beater setup and this is what I'm soon going to try with it for Blu-ray movies to see if I can get a better picture by eliminating an unnecessary A/D and D/A conversion...
PS3 ---[1080/24p HDMI to DVI]---> VisionDVI ---[720p @ 48Hz DVI]---> HDfury ---[RGBHV]---> Runco IDP-980
If that works well I may try it with my main setup. The unnecessary A/D and D/A conversion really seem to hurt the picture quality on my VisionDVI and Runco IDP-980 setup, though it doesn't seem to hurt my VisionHDP and 1292Q setup.
