Looking for suggestions on where to buy material for the HT walls. The walls will have Linacoustic and I am looking for material to cover.

There are only about 1 billion places, so I ask if anyone has a web sites they have used, or good sources on ebay.

The Linacoustic is the room treatment. I'm just looking for material to cover that. Not interested GOM.

I'm going to check out the local fabric places but was wondering about some internet sites as well.

GOM = Guilford of Maine http://www.guilfordofmaine.com/. Too much $$$ for me.

There are lots of online discount fabric places and ebay, but your best bet is the local Joanne's or Hancock Fabrics in Leesburg... it's frustrating to try to search though thousands of patterns, looking for the perfect color, pattern, weight, stretchability.

But you'll know when you see it in person.

What you're looking for is called "decorator" fabric... heavy duty upholstery stuff meant for drapes and couches and headboards, etc... 48" and 60" rolls, not typical fabric bolts.

The fabric stores always have 50% off sales/coupons too. I can go with you if you want to road trip.

Hmmm, then again, I always felt awkward when I go to a fabric store alone, I bet it'll be even worse going with another guy. Not that there's anything wrong with 2 guys shopping for fabric.

The GoM costs ~$20/yard. You'll probably need about 20 yards for your room, more depending on if you're doing top and bottom, and depending on the width of the roll. The decorator/upholstery fabric also costs about $20/yd, but with the inevitable sale/coupon, that cuts it to half. But it's not a huge additional expense to go with GoM, I just didn't like the texture and solid colors... looked like dyed burlap or cubicle panel walls.

But especially in the house of a smoker, the fire rated stuff is a smart idea. They also sell fire-retardant spray.

I like the look of this stuff:

I picked up some Dazian Expo cloth for my lower walls.

I seriously think you should consider getting fire retardant treated material if at all possible.

Do yourself a favor and take a small piece of whatever you get at Joanne and light it with a match over the sink. I was so scared after that the Dazian fabric seemed like a better investment and still considerably cheaper than GOM.

I got my black fabric to cover the whole room from fabric.com. Great deal and shipping is free right now for orders over $35. When I needed just a few yards to make some acoustic panels I went to Hancock Fabrics here locally and picked up some "Ponte" which is perfect for what I was doing.

Great. Confused Now, between you and Greg, I'm not feeling so good. Does JoAnn, Hancock or Ben Franklin places sell stuff that is fire retardant (either fabric or some type of spray on, or wash in)?

As far as going to the store together, I don't give a crap. HT stuff rules over everything! Mr. Green Of course, the wife will want to make the final decission. But hey, before I ask her there, we could at least see what the options are. That way she wont pick something out and then find out later that it's not really what should be used. If we go to the Sterling area, I'll pick up some winter brews at the Total Wine and Beverage place.

I got a roll of the Linacustic stuff from McCormicks today (You were right in that is's squirrly to find.).

And, damn you are close, I figured 21.5sq. ft. including the doors and a little extra.

Any chance you are around the sometime in the next 4-5 days and maybe I could bring my wife over to have a look at yours? We are both on vacation this week. (Once she sees other peoples set-up, she is Thumbs Up from there on for almost any expense. Mr. Green )

I'm going to use the Linacustic from top to bottom.

Far from an acoustical expert but I thought using linacoustic for the entire wall was a no no unless you are talking about the front or back wall.

I can see reflection points but the entire thing might make it a little "dead".

Again, not an expert by any means.

I agree with making it "dead".

My speakers are Klipsch F-3 (great deal from Best Buy) and the horns are bright! I have tamed them as much as possible, but still I don't think the Linaustic top-to-bottom will hurt.

Besides, I have a whole roll.

Is there any rule about how much room you need behind your screen wall? Mine is against the garage so I could loose about 18" and not miss it at all.

Yes, I saw some fire retardant spray at the fabric store.

Order a $3 sample of this and we'll experiment...

Fire?

If a fire were to break out in the HT then I'd think about the rest of the house, AND what the heck I did wrong to start the fire in the first place. If the fire started somewhere else in the house, then I'd not care so much about the theater catching fire as I would the water damage resulting from the fire department hosing me home down.
