sorry tim, i'm 1000 miles away. IMHO, Intermittent problems are quite often PS related, could it be a fault in the LVPS +/-85V rail? Usually a flaky transistor/capacitor combo causes this and i've sen it a few times on older Convergence amps.
Of course it could also be a glitch on the delfection processor board but those usually show up as a scrambled video on the screen as opposed to tripping the H-fail circuit. Have the customer check the error lights on the LVPS front after the H-fail occurs.
