|
|
Hi
I have found there is an adater cable for PS3 that converts HDMI to component. It is an official Sony cable and there are copies around. Priced over here at £10 for a copy to £25 for the official. They also have left, right audio leads. It is possible to set up the PS3 to get digital sound through the optical so DD and DTS is ok, just no HD sound types.
It will output 720p and 1080i. No 1080p because of HDCP.
Has anybody used these cables? Do the 720p and 1080i work with HDCP?

HDCP has nothing to do with 720P or 1080i. I can watch OTA broadcast content at those resolutions and without HDCP. On the other hand, I can easily expect HDCP to be applied to a variety or transmissions and pre-recorded content.
The PS3 has the ability to output HD content across the Component analog transport. Most people using the HDfury are looking to strip the HDCP from protected content, AND transcode it to something other than Component video.

The cable you refer to is not an HDMI to component cable; It's a standard PS3 component cable that uses the AV MULTI connector on the PS3 - NOT HDMI. So, it's not a converter of any kind like the HD Fury is - it's simply a component cable that taps the component output on the PS3. You are free to use that cable as long as your display has component inputs.
That said, the HD Fury's analog output is superior to that of the PS3's. It would depend however on the quality of your display as to whether you'd see the difference.
Quality aside, the only things you'll be missing by using the component cable instead of HDMI is:
A) DVD scaled output is limited to 480p.
B) Blu-ray content would be downscaled to 540p if the ICT (Image Constraint Token) is ever set. None currently are, however.
C) No 1080p output.
D) No advanced audio, but you need an HDMI-based receiver or processor to get that, anyway. You wouldn't be talking about going component if you had that.

I got the cable today and I have found that the covergence is way off. What is odd about that is that is set up perfectly for the HD signal I get from my cable tv box. I found that my THX demo DVD has the same effect on the composite input.
Both the HD signals are coming through inputs 5 and 6. I think I will have to use 6 for cable and 5 for PS3 and set the convergence individually.

Are you sure you're running the same res on both sources?

I haven't touched the resolution. I do not know how.
Do I need to look up the output for each device and adjust the projector?
I don't know how adjust the projector. I'll have a search for that.
