i'm a nube at this. i'm trying to figure out the throw distance for a 12' diagonal screen. the manual says 1.38 x width, so is that 12 x 1.38=16.56' or is it the diagonal width (12') divided by 1.38=8.7'? thanks in advance

See the instructions at the bottom of this page on how to properly set throw distance for any CRT projector:

Don't use the calculators or anything from the manuals.

Runco does not adjust width pot on SMPS properly. Input your 1080P signal,
turn down contrast, look in green lens and increase H pot, with Geometry
H-width set to max, until you are close to the tube edge, but not touching.

I have seen this more than once - great way to ruin tubes.

After you do that, you can set your screen distance - a nice rolley cart or
furniture dolley will come in handy. To quote Kal "Forget the calculator!"

sounds good but for those that don't have the ability to do this, we used to give a percentage closer than what the barco LENS program gives

anyone remember what that is?, I am thinking it was 7%

I have forgot but the Barco freaks should know Wink

Gary,

The only right way is to feed a source and set up an output width looking
in the lens at the tube face. The issue with the 1101 is the width pot - it needs
adjusting - unless of course the tubes already have significant wear
and he will just have to use it as is. What I have seen from the 1101's
is that they would be further back even than the conservative Barco
lens program calls for (and that's not off by 7% -- maybe 4%) due
to the incredibly small raster usage.

It is just not that difficult to set up the width on the green tube, and
then measure how far the PJ will need to be from the desired screen
width, and then most of us will allow for some fore-aft adjustment in
the mounting system (usually with "zip" channel) to allow for fine
tuning after the install. (+/- 4 inches is usually enough)

Thanks for all the input. In my inexperience I think I might have prematurely caused excessive wear on the tubes. The projector was way too far back. I will try to remove the lens and examine the tubes and if I find any excessive burn in I guess I'll just have to live with it for a while, until I can have these replaced (unless these can be rebuilt). Thanks again.

won't adjusting the width pot at 1080p effect all other resolutions? or are you adjusting image width electronically with any other scan rate?

Hi Dan - your avatar - hww kjlu9uuihhhh - just can't type...sorry...
What was the question again....tubes?.........

OK I got it - yes the max width pot will change width for every memory block,
it actually controls a number of internal voltages, and shouldn't be moved
more than what is needed to fill the tube face at the highest input frequency -
with the H width electronic control set at 99.

This isn't something you would generally need to do, but I have seen several
1101's that were't set correctly, and the raster usage was very poor, way below
even the standard Barco lens program settings, which are very conservative.

Gman.
if my H width at 99 at 1080p is pretty well spot on as far as raster usage goes then leave it alone? Previously my Sony G70 was max raster usage set with the trim pot with H width set at 128 (mid).....I'm asking if it's OK to have the electronic controls max'ed.
Dan

Hi Dan - yes you are good, 99 is not a problem, that is where I would run it,
even with a width pot adjustment - I discovered some instability with low
resolution internal patterns (used in G2 adjust procedure) when I tried to
use a lower setting in the electronic controls and a higher setting on the pot.

Cheers,
Galen
