Playing my ripped BR's on my laptop...FFDShow is showing 640kbps in the OSD from 48khz 6 channel audio.
Does any of that make sense??

Greg, that's probably the Dolby Digital core audio track you're seeing in the OSD - i.e. standard AC-3 - ala the same audio track that a standard DVD has on it. That's for compatibility with older processors. Lossless audio's date rate is MUCH higher than that.
You really have to specify exactly what kind of audio you're talking about. It's not enough to say "uncompressed. It depends whether you're talking about LPCM @ 24/96, Dolby TrueHD at 20/48, or LPCM at 16/48 (the lossless version of normal DVD audio.) Suffice it to say that the track's date rate is pretty regularly 6-10x + the date rage of of your run-of-the mill AC-3 or DTS track on a good old DVD - 4-10mbps. I think the TrueHD track on the Dave Mathews/Tim Reynolds BD is pushing 10mbps.

At 10 Mbps r less this is easily sustainable by the current crop of packet ICs. I'm trying to guess what might the limitations be for cowsumer-grade multi-channel audio be when transported over ordinary 14/2wg electrical wiring.

Yeah I figured it didn't make much sense as I thought DTS was about 1.5mbps or something.
I wonder if there is a way for me to get the lossless audio out of the ripped BR's through my HDMI out??

Greg, I haven't gotten into ripping BD... no time/patience (or drive space!) for it at this point. I assume the ripping software you're using is intentionally dropping the advanced audio tracks, as they would add significantly to the size of the file. I'd guess you're getting just the video track, and a DD core audio track. Just guessing, though.
