This happened one other time, the first time was on Pirates 3 or whatever it was called. Would not play until I upgraded the firmware. Tonight I pop in The Dark knight and with a theater full of guests thing locks up and wont let me do squat, so I try a couple off on cycles no help, then I try Iron Man which never even hiccuped an NOTHING, I'm going to try and reload the latest firmware which is still the old firmware and see if that helps. This SUCKS. I'm sure it has something to do with the bluray bull**** interface or copy protection encryption crap. ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH Thumbs Down

I had returned my BDP-1400 Samsung after four months when it stopped playing regular DVDs. Samsung turned out to be a piece of junk. Never again. Lucky I got it from Costco so I could return it well after I bought it.

But why is this in the movie section and not in the Source Devices section?

Why you blame the format and not the manufacturer is bewildering. If I shoot you I am sure you will let me off the hook and file a suit against the gun manufacturer.

Damn, guess I pissed off wanman along the way somewhere...sorry dude..I thought I was blaming the whole package...crappy Samsung, crappy have to upgrade stuff all the time bluray.
And how the hell did my inquiry about a bluray movie (media) possibly causing a lockup, just a question, end up with me being shot by you, letting you off the hook and suing the gun manufacturer??? WTF??? A wee bit drastic an example don't ya think.

But to answer your question in the variables you offered. No, I would not let you off the hook and sue the gun manufacturer. This scenario sounds like I have not done anything wrong and you are the aggressor. Since obviously you are (in this scenario at least, as I've never met you and have no idea other than this little scenario you present in response to a question about a bluray disc, so absolutely no insult implied or intended) since you are obviously a psychopath with a gun and a lousy shot, because obviously I would have to be alive after you shot me to sue somebody, but since I lived after you violently attacked me with a gun my response would be the same as the other few times when I have been assaulted with deadly force. With every fiber of my being I would try to take the very life out of you that you were trying to steal from me. I would stick you so full of holes the surgeons would not know immediately which leak to fix first. I would pop your lungs with a well placed knife blade through your rib cage and just for giggles I would stick my fingers in your eye socket and pluck your eye out like a grape. Then, while you were lying there wondering what kind of whack job you just attacked I would kick your nuts as hard as I possibly could to see if I could pop them so the world would not have to worry about someone as dumb and sick as you procreating ever again. At least that's what my response was the last time someone was stupid enough to attack me with deadly intent. Other times I just bit off an ear or stuck em with a few new holes. But pretty much it's a consistent survival of the fittest reaction until they stop aggressing . And since I'm still typing.....

See no suing here. Or pussy footing around whining about where are the police to save me BS. Just an appropriate extremely more violent life preserving response. Much more effective than trying to sue somebody or talk to some dumb sonuvabitch trying to cause me or mine harm.

Again this in no way is meant as a dig to anyone wanman, I'm just answering your question.

And Curt, I agree with you. There are probably tons of lawyers and plaintiffs who have sued and won against gun makers instead of putting blame where blame lies. That's what I keep bitching about. The US government and courts are so broken and corrupt it makes me want to puke. But it looks like Canada is a little sue happy toohttp://overlawyered.com/2005/10/ottawa-may-sue-us-gun-makers/

But all I really was asking in my first post was if there was anyone who had some insight into this particular bluray media causing any problems. I think that's been answered now...Thanks guys.

Not to pile on, but the Samsungs are crap. They have had a history of problems--every single model has had problems. DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG BD PLAYERS (unless it is a gift for someone you really hate).

Secondly, you can blame Sony. Blu-ray was/is a total effing mess. HD DVD was implemented significantly better. Given the mess that was/is blu-ray they were way behind. Since Sony could not possibly allow a format better for the consumers to win, they had to rush their half baked crap to market. They of course put out the PS3 as the prime player which could be updated easily as they put their house in order and actually finished the product the were f*cking people with. Other manufacturers didn't necessarily have it so easy (but why did Sony care--f*cking customers and partners is their "thing").

So, it is really tough to blame the other manufacturers who are really just trying to keep up with the mess.

All that said, even if things were perfect, the Samsungs are crap for other reasons. Smile

I didn't look at enough to recommend. The PS3 is certainly the fastest and the most updatable. I don't like its ergonomics. There are other goods ones though, but what is your budget?

My research was primarily into BD players with HD audio support and analog outs (I had no reason at all to upgrade the receiver). Anthansios recommended the LG BH100 which is an HD DVD/BD combo player as a very good option because it had very clean output. I ended up getting one of those, and I still can't thank him enough.

I like the player as it did almost everything I wanted (1080p/24, analog outs with decoding of everything but DTS-HD) and has great playback. Further, it let me take the HD-A1 out of the rack.

Since I've got it, I also found out that can send 480i out its HDMI when player DVDs (something Anthansios didn't even know about but we are both now using).

Its playback of HD DVDs is better than my HD-A1 and both Anthansios and I have compared it to PS3s in our theaters and we (and the others present) thought it looked better than the PS3. BUT THIS IS ONLY OUR OPINION (sorry, I had to say that last part as I posted that not all players are equal in output and the PS3 is not the best in the PS3 thread here and the PS3 fan-boys wanted to hang me up by my testicles).

Thanks Dave. That's within my budget. I really don't need a game console in the theater. It's nice to have real world options. I'm going to start reading up

If HDMI audio is OK, the LG BH200 has some nice processing and is also a nice option.

WARNING!!! The PS3 fan-boys got mad at me for calling it a "game console". You are treading on mighty thin ground buddy! Wink

The only thing I don't like about the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player is when my son leaves a PS3 game in it, it automatically starts the game when I power it up. So instead of being able to insert the BD that I'm holding in my impatient hands, I have to scramble for the volume because I've got Tony Hawk loading while skater music is blaring at reference levels. Evil or Very Mad Then I have to find the PS3 game controller (but I use the square remote for BD) and figure out how to cancel the damn game from starting up, eject the game disk, look for the game case, THEN insert my BD. Phew. Dang whipper-snappers.
