Try feeding it a straight video signal on input 1, see if that works. Sometimes these sets blank out completely when there's no input detected.
At turnon, look into the tubes, and see if you can see ANY light coming out of the tubes at all. You should see either a dotted line, or some flicker of each tube color at the extreme bottom or top of the tubes (slightly off the phosphor usually), on the bottom of the tube if the set is set for floor mount. That's the AKB line (I think), and will at least indicate that you have H and V deflection and HV.
If the scan fail isn't on, and all green LEDs are on, then your new SMPS should be fine. I did test it in the chassis here before sending it, so it should be OK. |
Curt
No scan fails lit at all,all three green led's are on on the back of tubes,I've fed it a straight source from the ps3 and looked into the tubes as you suggested and all three tubes have flicker at the extreme bottom with the AKB line visible, this happens on both port 3 and 5.
So this suggests I do at least have H and V deflection as you stated, what else can I check, maybe it's something simple I've overlooked?

Do the green LEDs on the RGB switcher board change when you change inputs from 1-5? When in video mode feeding a composite video signal, does the green 'video' light stay on? you might have an RGB switcher board issue.

I don't understand what you mean by "composite signal" I can only feed it rgbhv ,port 3 and vga.
While feeding it a source through both rgb and port3 there are some green led's alight on the rgb switcher board and none of them change when hitting any number on the remote, and I have the remote hard wired.I did notice that the red "mute" led is on.
Also all of these led's come on and off at the same time,so on for about 10 sec's and off for about 10 sec's.

Composite is a 'regular' video signal that comes out of the yellow connector on the back of a VHS machine or DVD player.
Connect that via an RCA to BNC adapter and select '1' on the keypad.

Let me rephrase,I know what a composite signal is however, there is no composite input on the pj,I have vga, port 3 and rgbhv, that's it.

It should be connected to the bnc connector labeled Comp-/H-Sync.

Now I think I understand, and below is exactly what I have done
Connected the composite from my set top box to the Comp-/H-Sync of the pj.
Switched on pj and noticed that only 3 led's are lit, they are
1-hdtv
2-c.vid
3-rgb
I did change inputs from 1-5 and noticed that all three including the c.vid led remained on with no change.

OK, right, I forgot that RUnco takes out the composite video input on those sets. Stupid Runco!
It's possible that the RGB switcher board is bad, or the quad decoder. Sending you an email now.

You might also try tweaking the master width control on the SMPS as well as that 17 volt pot to see if the pix comes back. It would be a bit strange to have two problems in one projector at the same time. It was working before the SMPS died, right?

Yes. on that PJ the max width set too high can cause odd problems.
And there is no decoder, therefore no composite or s-video inputs -
the BNC marked "H/comp" refers to composite sync signals (H+V)
Also check to see that the CONV led is not lit on the G2/diagnostic board.
I have seen a similar situation with G808S smps...everything looks good
but no pic & won't release HV...

By tweaking the width pot I was finally able to light the tubes up and get the internal pattern up momentarily. The pot was at it's max,so I turned it back down and gradually back up,then I got the pattern.
Two things I noticed were;
1-The pattern is about half the size of my screen, both horizontally and vertically.
2- "failure 12c error addr 5ah" comes up.
Now I just cant seem to replicate what I did,I mean all three tubes are now at least very slightly lit but I cant get the pattern up anymore,no matter how many times I turn the pot.
ZGman
There conv led is not lit on the G2/diagnostic board.
My head hurts
Anyone need a boatanchor?

What? Haven't you watched "Water World"A few mods here and there and Bob's your uncle.
Back on topic,I now notice that none of the led's on the other boards light up anymore, only the smps and G2/diagnostic board led's are lighting up.
WTF?

According to Barco error codes,5AH is rgb driver related.
So rgb driver=bad
Rgb switcher ,no led's at all =bad
Any other boards you guy's think I should send off while I'm at it?
