Hi,

Being the cutting edge early adopter, I just got an RCA F38310 HD CRT up and running. I've figured out that my Oppo DV981 is a tad newer and the TV won't accept the HDMI output. What is the collective wisdom and experience with something like the HDfury products? Any recommendations?

Oppo----HDMI----->HDFury2====Component====>RCA. It's the easiest solution.

Or if you want gamma add a Box1020 in there

Oppo---HDMI---->HDFury2|Box1020====component====RCA.

Thanks for the response!

What might the tradeoffs be between this approach and that of purchasing an upconverting DVD with component outputs, such as an Oppo DV980H? Oppo says that it will output 1080i via component (the limitations of the TV) with "unencrypted" content. Is the garden variety DVD encrypted?

In the grand scheme of things, how important is the automatic gamma correction feature?

Last, this TV has a built-in digital tuner. Is there anyway to take advantage of this and feed it digital signal directly, instead of incurring an additional analog to digital conversion?

Thanks!

Sounds like your Oppo won't upscale any Studio movie over component so HDMI it is. I have a 42" RCA CRT RPTV. It really punched up the picture. It's good for gamming too. No one can hide in the shadows. Wink see here: https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=11790.html

No none of this stuff will work with your digital tuner. Give analog a try it's been around for over a 100 years and it's not so bad Very Happy
