Ok, so I am looking at the list of other movies being released today on Blu-ray and I see Immortel (ad vitam) selling for $12 at Amazon.

Anyone seen this flick?

No, but the reviewers at Rottentomatoes.com aren't terribly impressed: 43%.

43% isn't bad for Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, I take that as almost an approval that I might like the movie. I must have weird taste, because I often really like movies that are in the 40's or 50's on Rotten Tomatoes, while I dislike some of the movies that rate really well.

For instance, I just saw "The Strangers" - a good horror flick - a couple of weeks ago and posted about how much I enjoyed it. 44% on the Tomatometer. WTF?

One of my all-time favorite movies - probably one of the funniest movies of the 90's - Office Space, got a 79%, while one of my least favorite movies, "There's Something About Mary" with my least-favorite dumbass ho-hum actor, Ben Stiller got 81%. Even more confusing, the decent, but really average (IMHO) "Knocked Up" got 91%!!! 91?!?!!? Apparently, all you have to do is add something really shocking like a moron with his dick caught in a zipper, spooge hanging from your ear, or in the case of Knocked up, have the OBGYN stick her finger up a girl's ass and that makes a great movie.

It is usually a pretty good average guide. Here are some that rate well that are among my favs:
The Incredibles: 97%
The Matrix: 86%
The Hunt for Red October: 95%
Leaving Las Vegas: 89%
North by Northwest: 100%
Vertigo: 100%
American History X: 83%
Platoon: 88%

You get the idea. Wink

I guess I'll be the first amongst the nuts here to see it.

In this case I was not terribly impressed with the acting, but considering its a french sci-fi/fantasy movie I am not sure I'd be concluding much. So, for $12 it was 'ok', but I am glad the wife seemed to enjoy it--surprising she actually followed it.

The first thing I noted was the style of the film, which was a lot like Sky Captain (both made in 2004). If you are into the visual aspects of Sky Captain you may be interested in this flick. I did find it difficult getting use to Linda Hardy's blue scalp, which was like watching Natalie Portman in V.

Lastly, caution for those disliking of CGI use in place of live film for actors. Seems that this film likes to have 2/3 of the supporting cast CGI'd.
