so I finally get to enter the 9" game after nearly 10 years of CRTing, when I originally bought my first CRT, a Ampro 2000g I was lusting over a Barco 1209s, same went for my Ampro 2300D, Barco D808s, and NEC 1352LC that followed, I have finally won my battle with the ever elusive 1209s, and in better than stock Barco form

I am to be the proud new owner of a Runco DTV-1101, unit is coming to me with all original boxing and 100% of the packaging and has around 750 hours on it supposedly, if things turn out worse then so what I might have to slap a few LUGs in it right now, no biggie

the Runco is what I sought after in my elusive 1209s due to the colored C-elements, slightly better HD10 GT17s and stock LUG tubes, I am going to get the works from Greg Eisemann as well(whatever happened to Barco mods from MP?) and haven't decided yet from either the external moome or HDfury2 with Box1021

I will post some pics when this baby arrives

anyone here have a Runco 1101?

-Gary

Wow, congratulations Gary. Where'd you find it with original packaging and that few hours?

Hey, at least the already-black case will match your decor!!!

I'll be very interested to hear your opinion on the difference in sharpness...I found the last XGLC I had was every bit as sharp, if not sharper than the 9500LC that I had....although, I suspect if the Eismann mods are half as good as he claims...it will be razor sharp!!

Hey Gary, Congrats on the 9"! Mine's an 1100, not sure what the difference is but mine has LPB's instead of LUG's. Supposedly the LUGs work with no problem though. Way Cool that it has so few hours on it. Was this one from Crownsville?

Works for me as I will be taking some of the sloppy seconds from his XG. I'm like some post apocolyptic junk collector scavenging for parts...

thanks guys

one thing was certain after having the NEC colors I couldn't go anywhere near a regular 1209s, that is why I am so excited about the Runco, it has those c-elements rockin', I would hate to have to track down a set and have them installed, lots of work

and finally while the XG was amazing, I could do anything with it, I still love the Barco build and how it all comes together, plenty of room, easy to replace something, I love Barcos Smile

the XGLC is a total beast, I mean look at my screenshots from it, it is sick, the 1209s with LUGs should easily beat this no? I am only doing a 80" wide screen

thanks Athan, sounds good, does Greg have a HDMI input now? one that can take 10-bit 4:2:2 YPbPr HDMI? that would be awesome

one sore spot with the new PJ will be the HDMI input issue, external vs internal, I don't know if I can go back to DVI after enjoying 10-bit HDMI with the moome rig in my 1352

thanks

this one was on Craigs list in CA, I have high hopes for it being a consumer unit installed by pros in a HT which was said to have only used it for 300 movies or less, it will be a nice surprise

I almost sh*t when the seller told me it had the original box and packaging

it was also serviced and updated in 07, not sure what that is, I seem to remember Runco offering something for these puppies but don't remember what the updates were

for anyone interested, there is another Runco floating around on Craigs list BTW, go a google search for the DTV-1100 Wink

Congrats Thumbs Up
I have an 1101,
From what I know and have been told from a european installer is that all 1101's have hfq900's,p19 lug's and red and green c elements, and if it has a later version of firmware, its a graphics unit. But like I said,it's what I have been told.

Before I purchased my unit I was actually looking to get a barco 909,but after consulting a couple of guy's who have owned both 1209's and 909 I was told that the difference in actual movie watching was not noticable, however the controls on the 909 are a tweakers heaven.
I love my 1101,the pic this thing throws out is absolutely mindblowing, mines waiting for an smps of curt so I am having crt withdrawal symptoms ATM.I have epson tw700 720p lcd as a backup, but the difference between the two is so much that I refuse to watch any more blurays until I get it going again, after seeing what the 1101 can do I feel like movies are wasted on the epson.
Trust me you will love it.

holy sh*t Dave, the 1101 has the HFQ900 lenses?, how is it not equal to a G90 then all things considered? (sans a bit of bandwidth albeit stock form no mods on Barco) why is the Runco not on that PJ list? if it has LUGs, HFQ900 lenses and C-elements then it should easily be above a standard 1209s

that was it, I bet the upgrade Runco offered on the 1101 was to take it to graphics level

Barco downtime should not be that bad, parts are out there aplenty, sorry to hear of your trouble, the only thing worse than not having a high-end CRT is having one hanging there that doesn't work at the moment

do you plan on getting Eisemann mods,? did you know he has a new HDMI 1.3 internal setup? Smile

Like I said Gary, that's what I was told,on all 1101's.I didnt expect anything on mine but lo and behold,p19lugs c elements and the latest firmware,so I guess he was on the mark.

I wasn't aware greg had the hdmi card,I thought it was only dvi.My research has led me to believe that his mods are significant on the non s 1209 and only incremental on the 1209s as they are already pretty good.I am currenty feeding mine with the first hdfury and have no complaints,I cant see the image getting any better, really,I am in awe just how good the image is.It's actually sharper than my epson,no sh*t!

Do you konw of anyone who has gregs mods done on a 1101?I'd be interested to know the improvements. Then again off memory I think his mods are something like a grand? It would have to be significant to spend that much, considering I paid about 2.5 k when I bought mine.

Dave, I am in process talking with him right now, he has some big specials going so we shall see about $$, not sure yet

the biggie would be those 180mhz bandwidth neck cards, if it can be done on the 1101, that is what I am hoping

I think we should ask Andy from UK, I am sure he has seen and can comment on the GE mods plenty for us and in regards to the 1209s as well

yep HDMI 1.3 internal, it is not listed on his site or mentioned anywhere

as you said, people overstate sharpness from digitals, my XG 1352 was very close to the RS2 that I reviewed, maybe I obsess too much during the install that performance is tops, but it is all worth it Smile

a high-end well setup CRT will not leave any lover of films wanting sharpness Thumbs Up
