OK, i'm a little slow on this stuff but you have to limit the range in order to get the full blacker than black and whiter than white? Confused
I know with 16-235 I was having trouble getting FFTB even with Brightness turned way down.

16-235 is the correct setting for all video that conforms properly to video standards. You need to have levels 0~15 below black in order to show BTB because those 0~15 steps are the ones below black for BTB when black is at level 16. If black is at level 16, then anything less than level 16 is BTB. Same goes for the high end with WTW on the top end.

If a card is set to 16~235 it still uses all 256 steps, it's just that the lowest and highest steps (0~15 and 236~255) are reserved for levels below black and above white.

If a card is set to 0~255 there is nothing below zero for BTB or above 255 for WTW.

If a video source uses 0~255 instead of 16~235 the Moome board should be set to match 0~255. This way the black level will require the same brightness and contrast levels in the projector for the same output levels. There are several sources out there (including HTPC's) that will be using 0~255 and that is when it should be enabled on the card. But with PC levels you will never get BTB or WTW but on a computer these do not exist.

Now all that being said, I think the new Moome EDID might have an issue and I am not sure that it is properly showing BTB. I have a client sending me his card to test and I will let you know what I find when I get it. When I beta tested this card for Moome months and months ago we had this problem and Moome sent me a new EDID that worked perfectly after that. If there is a problem now it means that Moome may have made some changes to the EDID that are not correct. But don't everyone get up in a hissy fit just yet because I need to test again before I know for sure.

Well Dragan I'll tell you I am having that issue too. When I'm not tracking that Herringbone that is. My brightness is at 15 and whites are still pushing into a gray fade. I am set on 16-235. so is the Blu ray player. If I put it on 0-255 it gets much worse blown out gray look.

Are you using a Lumagen VP by chance? If so I can give you a way to get rid of the herringbone as these VP's sometimes insert it and I have a work around for them.

Thanks Craig, but no V/P. I only have a Sony 550 25 ft HDMI Moome card. Or Integra 10.5 upscaling DVD 30 ft HDMI Moome card.

WOW - Can you try deep color support ... i.e. set the card in deep color mode and see if the light turns on in the Moome card?

Best - Andres

Hi,

i am new here. I think to buy VIM-FULLHD v2. But i have some questions. I have a marquee 8000. A friend here in germany has tuned all boards and power supply. I have a dvi to RGB converter (moonjong hdmi/dvi to rgb converter), it had a faroudja scaler on board, i bought it a few years ago, but dvi input is now broken, SDI still works. Therfore i need a new solution for my pioneer blue ray player.
If i will buy VIM-FULLHD v2 it has no scaler on board. Output of my pioneer is 1080p/24p (I think so), Marquee is not able to handle 24p. Do i need a scaler to bring 1080p/24 up to 1080p/60. Is it possible to buy a onkyo or denon receiver to use internal scaler? But if i use internal scaler is it possible for marquee to display it, iam frightenend that picture is to much left or right und i have to set front and back porches or is mooms card able to handle shift to left or right.

thank you for help regards chris

Hi,

i have some additional infos. My bluray player is pioneer bdp 51fd. I cannot select 1080/60p direct in menu.
user manual told me: hdmi out sends 1080/60p if monitor don't support 24p (I translate from german, sorry for my bad english). Does anybody know how mooms card correspond to player. Another question, is there another player for example denon dvd 2500bt that works with moomes card and marquee without using a scaler.

regards Chris

Hi s_chris

See page 25 of your owners manual to turn off 24hz and set it to 50-60 whatever is in your area of the world.

A scaler is not necessary for the moome card.

Hi dturco,

thank you for response. I tried again, and you are right, it is possible to set my pioneer to 1080/60p Smile) .
I tried this a few month ago and i got no picture. I thought, this is caused by 24p. Now i have the problem, that V-SYNC went out of range. I set pioneer to 1080/60p and dvi to rgb Converter to native and v sync went out of range, display of pioneer shows 60 hz??? (Above i told, dvi input is broken: input works a few minutes, later i see green lightnings in the picture, i think i need a new card like mooms)

It's a great edition for your Marquee, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Just a tip, when installing the Moome card it would be best to re-initialize your Marquee and start from scratch. Yes, A Whole new complete set-up. It's worth it.

Hi,

I got card on thuesday. I installed it in the evening, it works from beginning good. I think it need some days to burn in. In the first hours it was not as sharp as my tuned dvi to rgb converter, but colours was direct better. After a few hours picture was sharper. I am very satisfied, thank you for your tips!

FYI:

Moome's had me make a slight correction to the specifications of this card: The DACs (digital to analog converters) are 14 bit, not 12 bit. True high end DACs here.

Hi guys!

Effective immediately, Moome has substantially reduced the price on his Marquee VIM-FULLHD HDMI 1.3 card. It is now only $349. That's a $61 savings over the old price.

To order see: http://www.curtpalme.com/VIM-FULLHD.shtm

I'm expecting my new card very soon now.

But now that 3D is out, I wonder when we're going to see a new version card that drives an IR emitter and shutter glasses so that we, too,
us primitive CRT enthusiasts, can properly appreciate 3D on our projectors.

Moome, you have a new project!
