That's a good video to see it in action, but this video totally lays it all out to you can see exactly what they're doing...

Sounds like about 900 RPM. That was one of the things I was wondering.

Check it out.

Very clever. None of the videos showed it playing an actual audio track though. My guess is it may not be very accurate . Also would need a mechanical low pass filter to get rid of the whir of those blades turning. The principle kind of reminds me of a flying VCR head.

Did anyone see the episode of MythBusters where they made of subwoofer using a car engine as the prime mover? The took an old car, fabricated a huge diaphram and drove it off the drive shaft with a crank shaft. The up and down oscillation of the crank was connected to the diaphram. I think it worked for about 30 seconds before it self destructed.

Was thinking on this subwoofer yesterday and was woundering how well one could scale down this unit? Imagine a 3" fan woofer in a portable Ipod dock... Brushless RC motor, and get it to hit just a hair higher like 15 to 75hz? a pair of 4" mid woofers and a couple 1" silk dome tweeters Smile could be pretty sweet.

It's not just a fan. It's a propeller with a pitch control. Now where's that trim button? Very Happy

Yeah, but then we'd need anti-torque. Damn, it's gets complex fast, doesn't it? Wink

I want somebody to buy one of these and take it apart. I want to see how that pitch control hub is built. I can see how it would be damn expensive, with the small numbers they're building and the mechanical complexity, but come on... 12-grand?!?!? I can't imagine that they have many takers at that price. Seems like they should be able find a way to manufacture them in larger quantities and be able to sell 'em for $3,000 or $4,000 and sell a SHITLOAD more than they do at the price of a nice, used car.

It reminds me of a helicopter rotor. With the pitch control and all.

"50W of Amp power= approx 210Db !!!! sweet!!!"

Eh. NO. Not really. Besides 194dB is the limit at one atm.
And nothing will get close to that.

And he did say 110dB.
