Hey Guys,
It looks like I'll be needing to refoam my JBL L77's, the foam had become brittle with age and finially gave out today on both speakers at the same time. I have never refoamed a speaker before so I'm looking for a little guidence and advice. Is this something I should be able to do myself without too much trouble or would I be better off letting a pro take care of it?
I believe this is the kit I'll need:

Quick question,
On the JBL LE10A speaker there is an aluminum piece where the "gasket" mentioned in the video is, I'm assuming this piece serves the same purpose but I'm not sure how it comes off, anyone know?
Also there is the PR10 passive radiator that needs to be refoamed, I'm guessing this requires the same foam ring as the construction between the two looks to be the same.

I have refoamed a few speakers and the results were very very good. I wish now I hadn't thrown away so many speakers that just needed refoaming

More power to you guys. My skills at stuff like that suck!
I have a pair of Infinity RS-II speakers. Each speaker has 2-10" woofers with foam surround. I tried a couple of times but was unsuccessful (a mess!!!!). After that mess, it was much easier to pay someone to do it.

A few of the kits I have seen recommend the dust cap be removed and the coil shimmed to ensure the voice coil is properly aligned, I think this is probably more of an issue with large drivers.

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!!! I tried the kit and could never get the voice coil shims in correctly (evenly).
And of course the glue and foam is a "hit or miss" type thing. Once you start setting the foam on the glued surface, thats it. There is no pulling it up and trying again.
Again, I salute those that can do this properly!

Wallace.. YOU SUCK! with those speakers..
I agree, for the hassle, find a COMPETENT speaker reconer that can refoam for you. THere's an awesome guy in Vancouver, Vancouver Audio Speaker Clinic. Small hole in the wall, but the guy used to work for me, and can redo ANYTHING with speakers. I think Seattle also has a decent repair place, and most major cities have places that know how to do this.
Avoid the guy that looks at the Infinities (or other classics) and tells you to drop in a 'Tunderfoque 2000' which will sound better...

I remember hearing Infinities way back in the 70s at the local stereo store, right around the time that Crime of the Century came out. I remember thinking that the speakers were way too bright, as I'd heard details that I'd not heard from cone tweeters..
Those ended up being my dream speakers, but have never gotten them. I'm holding out for a pair of Infinity Reference

i am going to have 4 of my infinity studio monitors redone by toby audio here in fort worth. then i will use them in my infinite baffle setup. these subs really rock. and i love bright speakers, something about them that my ears like.
