Impedance matching doesn't play much of a role unless you're talking about balanced lines. Some tube based power amps did have different taps on the output tranformer depending on the Z of the speaker connected to it.
I've heard the perfect combo and it is SS, but like I said before tubes have a certain glow to them, not very true to the actual music but easy to listen to. But this debate can get into some pretty messy arguments as to what is better tubes/SS, vinyl/digital (CD).

I didnt vote 'cause its impossible to say. What kind of tube amp is it? It could be a cheaply done, solder by numbers job and sound crappy.
As far as tube sound goes, efficient speakers are generally better because tubes put out less power. But when you match a good tube amp with nice speakers, the sound you get is very engaging.

However here's a little bit more
| Quote: | circuit on this unit is a straight-line with gain- meaning that it does'nt use any other phase invertors, or other circuitry than what is required to pass the signal cleanly and smoothly. I've heard that my preamp has more in common with the bottlehead , foreplay than differences in terms of sound- albeit mine has a smoother overall presentation, and the foreplay has a more analytical sound to it.
The 3.6 uses 18 gauge o.f.c. straded wire for the signal, metalized poly caps in the signal path, metal oxide resistors throughout, and solid-core copper wire (16 gauge) for the power. The power supply filter caps are xicon 25 volt units. The connectors are gold-plated brass. |
I am not pairing this with a tube amp either, I don't have high efficeincy speakers and tubed power amps just aren't for me. I am runing pair of these

The Pre-amp I bought is being specially built with XLR balanced output jacks to match my pair of Monarchy SM-70 mono blocks.
