I still think it has to do with some oxidation somewhere, its i Hawaii where its very humid and surrounded by saltwater, oxidation's favorite friends.

As for oxidation, I did purchase a radio shack brand electronics cleaner (not the Tv tuner one...I got that earlier) that says it removes oxidation. I cleaned the CLM and H Boards and chips with that.

Well, I did clean the boards, etc. with that cleaner and still doing what I wrote earlier.

I'll try the sync test. I did connect them correctly though, as the cable I have is clearly marked, not just color coded.

Just to make sure you removed the daughter board off the HDM, and also remove the two chips that are socketed on the daughter board, make sure they are oriented correctly when replacing. One more thing, when replacing the HDM back into its slot/connector be carefull with the rails of the metal case go into the hole in the mother board beneath it. Some times when removing the HDM from case its in you pull up on the case itself, this case is only secure at the front and not at the back, its meant to be held down by the back flip down heat sink assembly. it may have shifted also while you carried it up the stairs, especially if you tilted the PJ on its side. Also look to make sure no loose screw has come off in the chassis and is now touching any of the open connector pins on the mother board. this may have aslo rolled up against one of these connectors on the MB and is causing a short across the connector pins, i had this happen onec and it took me weeks to discover it after i decided to do a complete tear down of the PJ, it was up against the HDM connector!!!

Weeks to find the problem.....sigh. I hope it won't take that long.

I'll try your other suggestions as well. I did turn the pj on it's side to carry it upstairs, although it did work for 30 minutes or so after that.

You mentioned to remove the two chips socketed on the daughter board. I don't see any removable chips on the daughter board of the HDM.

I removed every chip that was removable, including the square ones off of the HDM and CLM boards.

sorry my one board has it removeable and the other one I have doesnt. I guess it depends on the set. Most likely its something so simple , too bad there is not a Marquee guy near you to help out with swaping boards. it get expensive shipping boards all over the place. But if its an H-fail in might be a good idea to at least get another one and try it. If it still doesnt help then part it out like in your other thread. But dont give up it could be something simple, i think its either the 1)HDM or 2) the CLM, and last the LVPS.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. I might try to swap out those two boards and see what happens.

By the way, I noticed you have an 8000 as well as a 8500. How much of a difference visually is there between the two? I know the 8000 doesn't have the astig board on it.

well i have changed many things on the 8000, but its subtle changes. my 8000 is basically a 8500 now, 2035-02p Vim, new CLM, and New neck boards. I dont have astig on my 8500 as the person I bought it from swapped out many boards and the focus coils so i had to rebuild that one too. I just slowly added parts, neck boards first, then vim, then clm. On the 8500 i also did the HD 144 lens mod, that is what separates the two now in PQ. Way better colors. But other wise its close the 8500 does run cooler also i noticed and it has a beefier HVPS and that helps in PQ too(brighter).

Thanks. It sounds like I wouldn't be missing much in a 8000 stock versus a 8500 stock then.

I had an Nec XG852 before, which had color corrected lenses. I don't think I am that sensitive to colors being a little off. I'm more into contrast ratio.

Since you have a 9500LC, can you still enjoy the picture of your 8000/8500? I really would like to get an LC unit. I've owned three RP CRT sets, and of course they are all LC. Really liked the contrast on those, but they were only 7" ES, and 65" or smaller, so they just don't cut it for me.

Do you think a G70 would be a good pj to pick up. It seems to be the lowest cost LC unit I see around. My budget is a bit limited at this time.

Id keep pushing forward on the 8000, i hate when people give up on it! I just got into CRT in dec 2006 and i have learned a lot since then. the marquee is a great machine lots of parts and most are interchangeable between chasis, I have never owned another brand only a marquee so i cant give advice on that. but Dragnm here has had G70's and like's the ease of repair to the marquee better and I do as well. Id be happy to test all your boards here but it just cost yu too much to send back and forth. Id just look for parts on ebay or buy another Marquee and have this as a spare. you'll save in the long run, if you get a G70 you'll have to sell this as a broken machine. but if you look for a nice marquee say for 1000 or less you have some parts in it you can use to trouble shoot if anything goes wrong or you can use the new machines parts to trouble shoot your 8000, decide if you want to buy the board you need and have two working machines, one for you thater and one for trouble shooting or stack them under over like I have now temporaily till i set up my blend. Every time i hear of someone having an issue with a once working Marquee and then all of a sudden it ges down i wish i was within=n driving distance to help out ! I get just as frustrated as you probably are. i just love the marquee as you can tell Very Happy

I have not even set up the 9500LC yet !!! I got it in june, I have so many current projects with my marquees for now, I am trying to fit sony 9 inch tubes to the marquee neck board(almost there!!!). I also am trying to rewind stock Barco focus coils to the specs of the marquee windings to use them as frankenyokes, almost there too !!! And i still want to blend the 8 inch machines first, before i decied to make the one a 9 incher and use the 9500LC with it. i think i will use the 8 inch blend till the tubes wear then swap them out with 9 inch tubes Very Happy , hence the mods to the VNB's to fit sony tubes that I can get for cheap !

You make good points about the Marquee. I think it would be wise indeed to get some spare parts for it. I just really want to get a Liquid Coupled unit one day.

I am in communication with a guy who is willing to sell me the boards I need. I think I'm going to go ahead and get them.

Do you think I need a VIM as well as a spare? He has a broken 8000 that has power supply and convergence issues. I'm going to get the HDM, CLM, and maybe the VIM and if the LVPS is working, that too.

By the way, do you ever watch your projector?

might as well get the vim it might be a better version than yours. If i get my 9 inch tubes to work, I'll have a mint set of 8 inch LC housing i'd sell you. I thought you can just swap out the 8 inch tubes and put in the 9 inch but the back housing plate is smaller on the 8 inch , everything else is the same. So if this works you'll have a nice set of tubes in housing waiting for you. I was going to convert the one set to an LC so id have two 9 inchLC and the 8 inch LC and the spare 8 inch AC, I have 4 units the one didnt work but i have it in pieces and never put it together to see if i can get it up and running, its an 8000.

And yes i do watch it, the other day i watch 1408 , it was scary(dont like horror films but this was really good!)
and last night Indiana jones and the Crystal skull, it looked great on the 12 foot screen ! With only One PJ on !!
It may be dim but the colors oh the colors !!!

I think i am going to watch Eastern Promiss's now that you got me thinking but i need to disconnect the green 9" tube form the set i was testing, its still arcs every few minutes Wink

I'm glad to here that you have a chance to enjoy the image you work so hard to achieve.

How do you convert an AC to LC? Is it hard to do? LC tubes are different from AC tubes right?

Wow, 12 foot screen. That's huge! No wonder you want to do a blend.

I only have an 8 foot screen, and it's a High Power at that.
