After all of the OT madness...Those damned Political guys Evil or Very Mad

Lets get back to HT Goodness.

You are asked to give us 10 clips. 10 scenes only that will show off a home theater at its best.

Please indicate BR or DVD.

Lets see what you got gents. Will there be any thing new to knockout some of the old standards???

I remember about a hundred eyars ago when CRT was the only choice for serious videophiles Clarence made a demo disc and either sold it or gave it away to people who asked. He used the opening scene from LOTR, fellowsip with the big battle. The battle sequence fopening of gladiator, the T-rex looking into the SUV with it's big eye-ball, and a bunch of other good ones.
I hope he makes a BR version, I would pay a few bucks or that. they're so much better than fumbling around with hardware in the dark and trying to remember which scenes to play when doing a demo.
I would think some of the chinese movies like crouching tiger have some real eye candy too. Also, one the best looking DVD's so far is the second Fantastic four with the silver surfer, even in standard BR it was fricking awesome. Oh and some scenes from Apocalypto, all that beautiful jungle green.
I thoguth transformers looked pretty weak, at least the HD-DVD was grainy as hell.

Unless it is a long demo for someone really interested, I don't like the whole keep switching discs finding scenes, etc.

Trailers are made to look cool, so I put together demos from trailers that are either obtained in HD from the web or copied from the HDNet show "Nothing but Trailers". Action movie trailers are generally the best. If someone wants to see a whole logical scene, or see more after a few trailers, I generally load in something that I don't have to search for (for instance, I have two copies of The Incredibles on D-VHS in OAR--one stays cued up to my "demo scene").

I played around with making a few demo discs for SD content and had some success using DVD Shrink and a few other programs. However, when it comes to HD DVD and Blu Ray the whole process is so far beyond my level of understanding that I have resisted trying to do it. I have been researching the Popcorn Hour device for possibly ripping HD content to that and then playing back as demo material. I'm not interested in Bit Torrents or trying to pirate anything. I just want to have the HD content I legally purchased available in a file format that would allow me to create a compilation of scenes and also to have my movies playable in a HTPC fashion. Well, that's a conversation for another thread though. The things I usually show for demo purposes are:

"Nothing but Trailers" episodes from my HD DVR

"Get Out", "The Girls of STARE" or any other eye candy I might have on my HD DVR

For Blu Ray I use:
-Master & Commander (first attack scene with all of the canon fire and the deckhands running overhead)
-Spiderman 3 (the scene where the Sandman is born in that particle generator thing. This has great low frequency stuff and awesome surround effects when the thing is spinning around him.)
-DVE disc (The space shuttle Atlantis demo.)
-Casino Royale (pretty much the entire end of the movie where the buildings are collapsing, great sub workout. This whole movie looks and sounds great.)
-David Gilmour "Remember that Night" (the track "Echoes" is just awesome for a great audio demo.)

There are so many more but I can't think of all of the movies I have right now. Shocked

I'll add a few more of my favorites later... These are a few that come to mind.

BD
Casino Royale - intro (cool grainy high contrast black/white with rich blacks) and title sequence (gorgeous and super-sharp motion graphics, great music)
Corpse Bride - musical piece (can't remember the name, but the blacks are deep, colors awesome, and excellent-sounding music)
Ratatouille - intro (The first 10 minutes or so are incredible. Sound, picture, colors, blacks, resolution - all reference quality)

HD DVD
Miami Vice - shootout scene at end (amazing, crystal clear, immersive surround - sounds like you are THERE)

Low-Def DVD
Blue Man Group, The Complex Rock Tour Live - I Feel Love (Video sucks - it's letterbox, but the sound ROCKS)

Great choices. I'd love to see Apocalypse Now in HD. Saw it three times when in opened at the University Theater in Toronto in 70mm/6track...Wow!

This one works for me in picture & sound (Dolby TrueHD)...

The idea was to do a demo disc... sorta like the one clarence did. I'm building a new pc...w/ a B/R burner, so that was my intention.

And i dont get hd net anymore... no more dishnet.....stupid comcast Sad

Three of my favorites are....

1. Matrix Reloaded The Fight scene @ the Merovingians . The White of the room w/ all of the action and surround... its great for Demo's (soon to be in B/R)

2. Dances w/ Wolves. The scene where the Pawnee steal his horse. The end of the scene where the Pawnee ride off and "Wind in his hair" turns back to scream @ Dunbar. Its amazing the sunlight against the sky and the capturing of the fleshtones can really show off a good setup.

3. The Incredibles. The Volcano. can you say... black crush? If your pj is lacking this scene will expose it for the fraud that it is. If your PJ is a performer... it will shine!!! Wink
