re: Putting all political threads in one forum:
You're basically asking for someone to moderate the forums and move threads around. We have a couple of mods but frankly, we don't police much.
I certainly don't want to spend many hours every day combing through the forums moving things around, especially when you're not even following the rules yourself by posting this thread!
Re: Plus allow blocking of that forum in the Curt Palme.com Forum index if were sick of all the BS ?...
I have no idea what this means. Blocking of what forum? What exactly does "blocking" mean? If you don't like the contents of a certain sub-forum, don't go in it.

Just add a political forum. I think most here will post accordingly...

What's the big deal with having off topic in a forum?
1) You do not have to read it if you do not want too.
2) There are plenty of threads, if not most of them, that wander off the original topic, is someone going to have to organize, sort, file... all those post that do not stay on topic?
3) I find that if there was nothing but CRT related information here, I (and probably others) would have lost interest in this forum long ago.
4) Actually I find that the off topics benefit the forum, keeps it from getting dull and gives some of the guys with CRT knowledge a reason to keep coming back.

The only problem I see with creating a "politics" forum, is what's "political". How many threads start non-political, but end up very political. Is it just the Sarah Palin/Joe Biden/Obama/McCain crap that's bothering you? That'll all be over in just over a month.
Kal, what's annoying Tom is that, as a club member, in the "Recent Posts" list, much of what is there is stuff he doesn't like to see. I just glanced at it, and out of the 25 threads in the "Recent Posts" list, 6 are Off-Topic. A whopping two are directly political, which I don't see as a really big deal. Just ignore them and move on.
I don't see the big deal, Tom. Even if Kal were to add a politics forum, the posts will still show up in the "recent posts" list. If you want to be able to set a user preference to whether it shows up there, then that's probably a bunch of coding Kal probably has zero interest in. Can't you just ignore the threads you don't want to read/post in?

Where are these "political" threads that have your short-hairs in a bunch?

Yup. Even if I was to code something to ignore certain forums for club members in the "Recent Threads" list, it assumes that everyone posts in the correct forums (which we know they don't). The only way to ensure that would be to hire people to do full-time moderating. Something we don't want to do either.
Moral of the story: At the end of the day, trying to control where and what people post just isn't going to happen easily. Nobody's willing to moderate 24/7 here and I'm not sure others want someone to anyway.

I just remembered, did not the hammer come down on the old forum? From what I got out of it, it got real ugly because the moderators were just getting out of hand.

Tom, just do what I do. Read all the good off topic stuff then click "mark all threads as read" afterwards and you're done.

Frankly, I'm tired of all the political threads as well. When the first five topics in the index of a CRT projector thread are about politics then it's getting a little ridiculous. I'm not saying we should moderate or move anything though. I'm just saying that I wish there was more projector and A/V talk going on and less bickering over campaigns, candidates, newspaper articles, etc. If the TV campaign adds were not enough...I have to be bombarded with it over here as well. I rarely take part in these discussions because I don't want to start arguments with forum members that I consider friends just because we don't agree on issues. It's an exercise in futility to even have these conversations really.

Hey, how do you think the non USers feel, seeing all of these US political threads?
Politicians are ALL liars, the trick is to vote for the one that lies in your best interest..

For anyone that has all their CRT related stuff straightened out this forum can be boring. That is why I think it gets off topic from time to time. Too bad there is not new and exciting things coming to CRT at a regular basis.

Yeah. I think the actual CRT-related posts have really dropped over the last year, which makes the political posts start to take over. Especially if you have a few non-stop political rabble-rousers. (You know who you are. )

Bingo. Kal, I can't just "don't go into" a forum that annoys me. I never "go into" a particular forum unless I want to start a new thread there. I don't use the "Recent Posts" list per se, but my standard view when I come to the forum is the "Show posts since last visit" list, which is basically the same thing. So the political wrangling is always at the top of the hit parade. Worse, I don't generally have enough discipline or common sense to just ignore the damn things.

Thank God. Elections and voting are a very important part of running a country like the US. But Good GOD they are obnoxious. Especially since politicians have gotten into non-stop negative campaigning. Fortunately I almost never turn on the TV so I don't see too many of them, but I don't know how people who DO watch TV can stand it. My father-in-law (a TV addict) was here a few weeks ago and I could hardly stand to be in the room when the ads came on.
