Ok, well, now that I have reduced my fear of death by electrocution a little today, I'm starting to feel a little more adventurous Very Happy

Something that has always bothered me about the pj is the fact that I had to overly compensate in my geometry settings for the fact that the green tube's deflection yoke is misaligned. I have always (though just barely) been able to compensate with V Skew before running out of adjustment range.

I've never had the guts to try and remedy the problem where it is supposed to be remedied since there is glue on the coils to hold the yoke in place. If there is anyone out there that could give me a detailed explanation on how to fix this myself, that would be so cool!

Thx again everyone!

Next episode Wink :
So I finally got the glue off. The PJ was originally a SEOS version, which is why I suspect the glue was put in place.

Anyhooo, I can now freely rotate the deflection yoke and have only 1 question left:
Can I do this while the PJ is turned on??
I can't think of any other way how to determine the alignement has been performed correctly...

And I don't feel much for a "rotate/turn-set-on/no-good/turn-set-off" and repeat approach unless ofcourse it's to dangerous to do otherwise Smile

You should take a look on the Etech site in the Marquee magnetics setup section, not sure how much transfers to your Barco but tubes are similar enough that it should get you started.

Disclaimer from Tim:

The procedures being detailed are hazardous for the untrained beginner; these procedures involve handling vacuum tubes, with the inherent danger of flying glass fragments if a tube is shattered, and also involve reaching into a running projector chassis with the possibility of high voltage discharging from the tube body to the person performing alignments, as well as other exposed metallic points carrying lethal voltages. Any untrained individual contemplating these procedures is advised to hire a skilled and experienced technician instead. E-Tech Systems cannot be responsible for injury or death for those attempting these alignments; individuals not heeding this warning are proceeding at their own risk. We insist that such individuals limit their use of this information to a diagnostic purpose only, to determine if a skilled technician needs to be involved.

Good luck and make sure you watch what you touch Smile

Ah crap, that looks a lot more complicated than I had thought Smile
I just loosened up the gear clamp on the deflection unit which I could then freely rotate. I was hoping that was it actually, nothing more.

If the procedure you posted entails the same for the barco, I'm skipping this due to a lack of confidenc in disassembling the entire tube Embarassed

You shouldn't have to pull the magnetics off the tube to do the alignment, not sure why that is on the Etech site? Although never having done magnetics myself I'm not sure what exactly is entailed. I do believe though that all the work can be done without pulling the magnets. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

On the Marquee and its proabbly the same for all tubes, after you pull the glue off the scan yoke(first coil on bell housing) and loosen any other clamp that may stop the yoke from moving, you turn on the PJ and use the wires to the scan yoke to move the deflection/scan coil till the grid is level to the horizon. Make sure your carefull to not touch the bare wire part, take off any jewlery on your wrist and roll up your sleves if they are loose fitting so not get anyhting caught.

its not hard to do, when your done you need to re hot glue the yoke to the bell housing and then clamp the convergence yoke tight as well.

your all done !

From this post on avs, I'm guessing I was on the right track:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=873553

It just seems like a great hastle to have to power on/off in between tries to check for correct positioning. But rather that than sticking my hand in while it is powered on and looking like a cartoon character afterwards (if I'm lucky Wink )

The plastic on the deflection unit seems like a safe place to touch though, I'm just worried about getting zapped from the coils just a couple of inches away Smile

Hmmm, what if I just nudge the plastic of the deflection unit in the right direction with a large wooden stick?? Laughing

The only thing I need to know is whether or not it is OK to rotate the deflection unit while the PJ is in operation.
Is it? Or should I fasten the clamp of the deflection unit eacht time prior to turning on the power??

Ouch... Mr. Green

In the meantime though, my rubber gloves did the trick: the alignement is now spot on and I'm still alive, what more can you ask for :
Razz

So thx to all that helped!
