No kidding!! 19.8 x 29.8 x 52.6", 242.5 lbs -- they weigh exactly as much as a G90, and they're 10" longer and 3+" taller! 4k x 2k pixels, and 5000 (!!) ANSI lumens... but only 1800:1 CR.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sony-SRXS105.htm

No idea what the projectors themselves cost, but it looks like bulbs cost $2800 (or over $5000, can't tell which) and have an average life of 500 hrs!? Yow.

So they hit this cube with 24 * 5000 = 120,000 lumens. Each 10x10' cube wall gets 4*5000 = 20,000 lumens. Spread over 10x10 = 100 sq ft, that means they're getting about 200 ftL at the screen!?!? Good GOD. Are they trying to display immersive graphics or fry chickens in there!??? You wouldn't just need sunglasses, you'd need a rad suit!

AR, I think the 909's were sold as a package to partially offset the upgrade costs. Don't think for a minute that I didn't try to find out where they were going.

Gary, I think Mechdyne/VRAC was going for maximum fidelity with the 4k x 2k resolution. The problem is that everything capable of that kind of resolution is designed for large screens, so has high light output, and nothing with lower light output is available with a 4k x 2k resolution. I wouldn't be surprised if Mechdyne worked with Sony to get modded versions of those machines that run the bulbs at a lower brightness for longer bulb life and less light output. As for cost, I think base price is around $60k apiece... so about $1.4M worth of projectors. But, I'm sure you get a good deal when you're buying 2 dozen. Wink

Greg, I don't need to pimp ISU/VRAC - they're doing kick-ass stuff, there! Everybody thinks we're just cornfields here in I-O-WAY, but there's some pretty neat sh*t going on. I'm even thinking about going back and getting my HCI (human computer interaction) certificate... and possibly a masters' if I enjoy it.

If you hear the sound of a drill coming up behind you and there's a USB port with thin leads coming off it. RUN Laughing That's a technician about to implant your HCI port. Laughing
