Hi all,
I am just setting up my 1272 again and awaiting the screen arriving. I have an hdmi upscaling dvd player (bluray coming for xmas) and I'm using the hdfury 1 for conversion to RGBHV before going out on the short green leads to the proj.
It all looks good and image looks fine staring into the tube @ 1080i. However the image is per usual a little shifted but also it looks like only about 60% of the tube is in use at any time. I also went straight in with the video port (composite?) and the tubes appear to use the same page size (assuming term correct..).
I can change the v & h size but they only operate within aan area comprising about 60-70% of the available tube surface. About and inch or two off the top and one side.
Is it normal for a proj to only ever use a portion of its tube regardless of input - a design limitation. Or should it be possible to unlock the entire tube surface???
My thoughts are just to set up the 80" screen at the distance specified by the manual and if it fits then I can't be doing too much wrong... worked last time but the big old screen I had adhoc'd was wobbly and panning shots made the poor viewers sea sick... Last of the Mohicans was particularly straining.

Also, its been almost a year since I used my 1270, but I remember being able to maximize the raster. The more of the tube face you use, the slower the wear is. Don't go over the edge though!

I went thru the g zone first managed to get about 60-65% tube face in use with centered image and off center raster.
Looking at RGBHV unit by Extron with h-hsift to (hopefully) provide enough centering that the raster is close to centered on the projector to begin with. It's old tech so paying a premium seems silly, looks like it will do the job plus adds an orbit to minimise tube burn in and $10US+post instead of $140-$180 for the solutions listed here for the hdfury (1) I already have. They're all 250-300hz bandwidth which should be almost enough for 1080p, certainly enough for 1080i which is about all my proj runs.
No gamma, but can live with it and player has some gamma adjustment already.
