I need some help getting the signal to the projector(Marquee 8110).

My sources(Blu Ray and HD DVD), will be routed through my Integra DTC 9.8, then out of the Integra, all via HDMI.

My choices are:

1-Buy the EXT-FULLHD Universal HDMI 1.3 to RGB converter for $335
or
2-Buy the HD Fury2 for $249
or
3-Wait and hope for a HDMI 1.3 card from Moome in the near future.

Any other recommendations? Will there be anything else needed?

Thanks,
Nick

hmmm, tough choices. I like the internal HDMI card, I have the first gen. version. The original external box had some problems but I'm not sure on the current model, I thnik it's fine? The new Fury is still under development so you would be rolling the dice on it basically and hoping it's equal to the Moome stuff?
One thing to keep in mind is that the external box would require a high quality RGB cable to the PJ, and they can get expensive depending on length. Up to $150. for a brand new 25 footer.
Alos, now that your getting the Marquee Thumbs Up there's a few techincal bulletins that shoud be done to it for relaibility and improved performance. I would take care of that stuff before you mount it to the ceiling.

Thank you sir!
Can you be a little more specific about these technical bulletins?

you need to check volateg at P14 on the motherboard, that's most important and it's described at the bottom of this page
http://www.etechvideo.com/techtip1.htm
I would also replace the caps on the 3 video neck-boards and possibly the convergence board depending on total chassis hours. There's the Christy digital "dot fix" and "line fix" which are minor pic quality tweaks but still worth doing. There's also a tech. bullit for re-routing the wires under the HV splitter for reduced interference.

Shouldn't they have already been done?

I don't know, it depends on the history of the machine. If it was sold by Curt, tim, or even myself at one time then some or all that stuff would have been done. iI've never handled a black V3 before though.

I went with the EXT-HD largely to protect myself in case of upgrade fever. This way I am open to look at any maker, not just (in my case) Sony.

My point was that they should have already been done, since he was encouraged to buy off of a forum member. I am not dissing a forum member, but if I were paying a premium for a pj then I would have expected that to already have been taken care of.

hmmm, not sure I understand your point. yes he bought it from a forum member which means your unlikaely to get ripped off and you'll get a working machine in the described condition. I don't se how that means yuo can expect a machine that's been re-furbished or serviced at the board level unless the seller happens to do that stuff as a hobby. You also can't expect a warranty, if the machine breaks in 3 days it doesn't make the seller liable unless he offered a warranty in advance.

Nick purchased the PJ from me. This Vision3 has less than 1500 original hours on it and it is totally stock. Nick did not pay a premium price for the PJ. I am the second owner and I never did end up installing this PJ as I lucked into a deal on a G90 a couple of years back shortly after. Curt would have this PJ listed at $3K or better and likely so. I mean, after all, he IS CURT PALME for cryin' out loud. Very Happy I sold it for less than a third of that. I'll let Nick post a price if he wants. I did not sell the unit with a warranty, but you can damn well be sure that if the PJ turns up with any issues when being set up that are not user related, I'll make sure that Nick is not left hung out to dry. I'm as fair as they come so it won't be an issue. I hate to see it go as the sleek and cool Vision case is what made me dream of having one years ago but I need to clear things out to prepare for a stack. I love the look of the Visions and the thing is damn near silent compared to the G90. It should ship out on Tuesday and be in his possession by Friday so he can post back when it arrives.

Draganm, please advise Nick on anything that you think is a MUST with this unit as I do not have the knowledge to do so. If after hearing your suggestions, Nick has second thoughts, then I have no problem sending him his money back. I want him to be happy and I think that he will.

Bingo! Doc hit the nail on the head!

Doc is a stand up guy, and after speaking with him, I was convinced that he wouldn't do me wrong. I have to admit that price was a limiting factor when I decided on a projector. I still have a room to finish to mount this sucker Wink And while I could have afforded a more expensive unit, it would have left me with less money to finish remodeling my dedicated room.

I have no doubts that I made the right decision based on MY needs. Doc is a stand up guy with a product that was fairly priced. I jumped on the deal while I had the chance!

That projector for the kind of price he's saying, from a reliable guy like Doc -- you got yourself a darn good deal. (Now if it was a Vision 1, a 9" LC projector, I'd tell you you got robbed and you should send it to me instead. Laughing)

There are several mods that can improve the picture on Marquees. Most of them are not critical (other than the anamorphic mod which is required to display 16:9) but they're worth doing. If you have no electronics experience and don't want to try replacing a few components, you can pull the boards and send them to Dragan or Curt or Tim and they can do the work for you. The one change that's crucial is the P14 power supply fix -- if this is not done, and your system is susceptible to the problem, you can cook your tubes' filaments. I can't find the P14 fix instructions now, but there's a pic at Tim's site that shows how to measure the P14 voltage. There's a Ehome tech bulletin that describes the process, but there's a much better one with pics around here somewhere.

right, that's the only critical one and depending on the year of man. it might not even need it. Starting in late 97 they began installing the Ultra power supply which thad the P14 circuit re-designed. You need to look throguh the left side grill under the Blue tube and check for either a trim pot or daughter board. If t's a trim pot I would do the mod.
