Yep. Blue phosphor is pretty accurate out of the box; red and green tend to skew orange and yellow, so they get filtered on a lot of projectors. The entire surface would never wear, since it's not possible (or useful) to set up a CRT PJ to run an image on the entire tube face). You'd see some kind of squishy rectangle of darker area if there was visible wear.
The brightnesses look fine, and if the blue tube is that good looking, it's likely you've just gotten a really good score for next to nothing (That's what 'YOU SUCK' means around here, by the way).
If I were you, the next thing I'd do would be to grab a computer, find a VGA->RGBHV cable, and throw some test patterns at it. Not sure if anyone else has any different advice, though.

I can see a slight bit of wear on the blue tube, but it's very light. The blue wears first on Sonys, so it's likely the green and right are like new. The blue is probably between an 8 and 9 (on a 10 scale, 10 being brand new). A 1292 with an 8 or 9 blue tube in nice condition for $150 is a steal. TWO 1292's in that condition is a bank robbery.
Congrats! If you don't mind the noise or can build a vented hush box, and if you're willing to put in the time to build your knowledge and experience, that machine should give you years of good service, with a damn sharp picture, in full 1080p from the latest Blu-Ray players.

Wow, if the other 1292 looks the same I would suggest to use one and part out the other, or keep them both if you want to have spare parts.
The blue tube is far less dim then mine, you lucky bastard! 
I've modded the fans on my 1292 to get the noise down, it now sounds like a standard 1272 
An easy way to defeat the roaring sound is placing blue-tack between the fans and the bolts in the powersupply.
This way you have no or very few contact between the fans and the metal housing giving far less noise.
Also the fans on the back and behind the tubes can be treated the same way.
This mod costs a dime and it gives you half of the noise you hear now 
The 2 top exhaust fans can be placed in series to slow them down, the connectors need to be modded to fake the fan protection.
A Sony crt shuts down when it indicates a not working fan.

These replies are making me very excited to start getting this thing set up
Unfortunately I have to be out of town for the weekend, but I've got a VGA breakout cable on the way from monoprice, and when I return I'll be bringing my family's HTPC that nobody uses 
I'll have to see if the fan noise bothers me or not, but thanks for those suggestions, Andre.

Well I finally got around to doing a basic set up. For the most part I am really impressed with how it looks for projecting onto a tan wall! I've run into a problem though. I am running a laptop to a vga-brc breakout cable, and the only resolutions the projector can display is 800 x 600 and 1280 x 720. Other settings throw the convergence out of whack (which I'm guessing is normal, though I searched and couldn't find much).
One problem I'm having is that even at 1280 X 720, the image is stretched vertically to the size of the test/setup images. I've tried shrinking the vertical size, but as soon as I hit 'normal' to go back to the video display, it stretches back out (and going back to the set up menu makes it wide screen again). Is there something I'm missing here?

Try saving it to memory first. Although I've had 127x series and I don't remember if it is necessary to do that. It is normal for different resolutions all to need different convergence settings.

Yes its normal for convergence to go out for different resolutions because the scan lines are in different places for each rez.
you'll need to learn how to set up a memeory block for each resolution you plan to use.
