I've been thinking of what speaker to put ibehind my screen and I think I want to find a set of D-9's. I remember my cousin having 3 sets of them when we were in high school, and they rocked like no other. A 15 inch driver 2 6' drivers and a horn, these were massive cabinets.

I'm having a hard time finding a set of these in my area. I'd be happy to even find a set that was in need of repair. can anyone help me find a set of these. also id like to find pictures so I can show the wife so she can tell me no then show up with them in the back of my truck Twisted Evil

Those do kick some serious butt. Wasn't someone here selling some of these for cheap, but shipping would be pricy?

Christ, my VS-120s can damned near split the house in half - I'd have to spool speaker wire out behind me and kneel behind an earthen bank before I fired up a pair of D-9s! Very Happy

Aside from that, the only problem I can see with putting a big pair of Vegas behind the screen is that they might rip a hole in it... Wink

They're a tad smaller than my VS-120s but look very similar. If they're anything at all like the Vegas I have, JUMP on them. I absolutely adore mine. I'd have a very, very hard time not buying a good set of those for $80 myself - and I have plenty of good speakers and no money at all! Smile

I also found a set of d-9s on ebay so if nothing else I'll buy the d-3s and hope for the d-9s

as long as you like to listen to your movies LOUD the cerwin vegas will rock but they are not famous for golden ear type listening. I have a set of big Vegas and they are soooo loud...from out on the lawn- with the doors closed ....LOUD
I love em Thumbs Up but they are a party/movie speaker, so if you need to listen low cause kids are sleeping etc I would keep looking.

I always thought of the CV speakers as more for DJ's than home theater. How do they sound ( when they aren't turned up so loud your ears are bleeding? )

To my ear they sound great. They're at least as good as anything I've heard in the theater, and I think that in my room the acoustics would have to be drastically improved to show up any problems with the speakers. That said, I haven't heard a 'good' setup, whatever that is. Anyway, if I was going to be worried about quality in a speaker, I'd be worried about the center, not the fronts, which spend most of their time reproducing sound effects, reverb, and (movie) music - all of which is so heavily processed that asking for 99.9% accuracy seems kind of irrelevant.

Well put Peri!

CVs aren't known for their accuracy, but for a kick in the butt with craploads of bass, they are great. As long as dialogue sounds natural, the rest is irrelevant.

OK update I've got a reply on one of my emails
Quote:
i do not have any pictures the speakers are in very good shape i want $75
each i will try to send you some pictures

The only problem is they are in NY somewhere and I'm not sure how much it would cost to ship them to me. I would think that it would as much as it was to ship my first pj, around 200 dollars. so it would be 350 total for the whole shebang little more than I was thinking, but still worth the money.

I should have added that my Cerwin Vegas are my left and right Thumbs Up and yes they are great for movies, especially when things go BOOM- they sound far better than most commercial theaters I have ever been in.
