After two years of faithful service my 4200 didn't fire up. I came home as usual, except for the TS Fay, and turned on the projector. The remote says error 30 at 74. Aaaargh! So I start trying some IC subs to narrow down the prob and manage to fry a freaking burn spot in the green tube. Totally my fault. I was upset because I was missing the daily episode of the Lone Ranger! What should I do? My thoughts are to part out the 4200 and start using my VDC 3600 for my television. I hate to give up on the LC 9" deal but right now it's prettty easy to slip into the 3600. I know there are a couple of 4200 users still in the CRT world. Need any parts?

Scott

Geeee... What, are we having a moment of silence for Scott's Ampro. 12 hours and no evil Ampro comments, or are they just reserved for Chip, Surprised

Scott, sorry for your loss. You know how much I hate to see these Ampro's get parted out and if I had the extra cash, I'd take it off your hands but, I guess you'll do what you have to do. Anyways, hope all works out for the best.

Yes but with only two running to begin with, that's a 50% failure rate. Mr. Green

I have never owned one but I have noticed over the years that there are a lot of Ampro haters out there. Reliability issues? I guess all projectors have their own set of problems or gripes from owners. I know that for NEC it's always the argument about how hard they are to set up. I have never owned anything but NEC so I have no other frame of reference.

Well see, there is part of my point. Is it that some are just referencing problems that a few have had and being unable to repair it themselves have labeled it junk.

Just like the car industry. There are those who outright hate a particular manufacture because of problems they had. Does that mean they are all junk. Absolutely not. I could name a car that I hate and others will praise it. Same with tv's, or other electronics.

But I'm still curious. What are the specific issue's with Ampro's that you guys know of, that make you dislike them?

I really havnt heard any, And i dont have any inhabitions not to get one, especially the HD4200 or 4600, Some come with the nicer focus yokes that us marquee guys look for to make the frankenyokes and they usually have HD 10GT17 lens. thats why they are so sharp as Chip says. I wish I was around when all this ampro bashing started, i bet chip started bashing every one first Wink but maybe not , that is an assumption just like the assumption many have about the unreliabitlty of ampros. Liek i said I got my 8500 cheap and thats how I got into CRT's next thing I knew is i had four ! But if some would give me an ampro now Id take it in a hart beat, give me two and the first ampro blend would be happeening.

Because it's The Thing To Do around here. Smile Pete started the Ampro-bashing long ago, even before Curt's board started I think. He just enjoyed tweaking Ampro owners for whatever reason, and did so at every possible opportunity. Now it's part of the culture of this board so people do it without even knowing why. Mr. Green

Well that makes more sense. I did notice that Chip did seem to be the target. In that case, have at it. I'll just ignore any comments directed at him. Sorry Chip......... If you feel like your getting beat up to much let me know. I got your 6. Your Ampro 6 that is..... Laughing
