Oh yeah and a little update from this past week. I finaly got the X-box HD-DVD drive installed. Downloaded Power DVD Ultra and the UDF driver. Poped a movie in and off it went. I watched the departed. What a beautiful picture.
Edit: forgot to add, I had to update the video driver to the latest from Nvidia's site.

Now I need a new video card it seems. The onboard 6150 chip is choppy at 1080P. I had to down res to 720 P to get a nice smooth picture. I'll start a new thread and update when I buy. I'm thinking the Gforce 8800 but the jury's still out on custom timings in the Nvidia driver and if/when powerstrip support will be implimented.

Just a quick update. I upgraded to a GeForce 8600 card ( the 8800 takes two slots width and wouldn't fit my case ).
It does 1080P with no stuttering at all now.
I'll post pictures later.

Hey you beat my price of $275 good deal. Then again you're closer to the source than I am.

I picked up my new combo drive tonight, didn't have time to install it. I'm bussy working on the whole dam place. Making room for all my CRT monitors, projectors and televisions. However.
I did fire up the Green Machine. I decided to setup 1080i out from the Nvidia 8600 GTS card. Ok after farting around with the powerstrip clone they include I finaly got it to stick at 1080i, doesn't look quite right yet but at least it's there. I was playing
"Zeplins' The Song Remains The Same" DVD and decided to let it upscale to 1080i. WTF??
The picture is so dark you can't see the video! The desktop is fine though. So I tried a 1080P clip of Hellgate London. Same thing, too dark in WMP,VLC and Power DVD. BUT, if I drop the resolution back down to 1024 x 768 the clips play fine. WTF is going on? Please tell me the new Nvidia cards aren't going to be as bad as the old ATi cards.
TIA guys.

The combo drive that the wife ordered for me for Xmas came yesterday. She wants me to un-box it and install it to make sure it works, and then re-box it for Xmas time. AR, on the tracking it shows the place of shipping origination was Canada. It went to a destination, had the UPS tag ripped off, and then re-shipped. The actual cardboard box has LG printed on it with '2 units' on the side. Strange.
Anyway, hope this thing works. I had a previous copy of Power DVD installed to support Blu-ray and its now popping up a free-upgrade ad, but I'm going to uninstall this and install the copy that comes with it to test HD DVD as well as Blu-ray. Hey, is this thing going to require I use the HDMI output of the motherboard, or will it work over VGA?

The answer is maybe. What video chip set do you have on your mother board?

Actually the documentation clearly states it supports analog output for video. Unfortunately, I'm guessing your UDF suggestion may be what kept me from having the HD DVD and Blu-ray disks from being recognized.

I hooked up the LG HD-DVD/BluRay drive tonight. Computer booted no problem, I poped in a HD-DVD, it opened and I could see all the files. Great. Opened Power DVD and had a quick ( too quick to see ) BSOD then the computer rebooted. Sonofabitch! I hate it when a plan doesn't come together.

The UDF drivers are only so you can read the files on the disk. They are not required for playing a disk. From what I have read on the LG with PowerDVD and BSOD, it seems to be caused by video card driver issues. Are there updated drivers for your video card and HD playback?

Dunno yet. I'm back at work. I'll look into this this weekend. I have a sneaking suspicion the GF made a trip to Best Buy and grabbed me some Bluray movies. SO, I really want to play them( if I actually get them )
I did have to do a video card update when I installed the XBOX HD DVD drive I remember. That was Oct 18th.

Which 8600 do you have? The GT or the GTS. The GT is not HDCP compatible. The GTS is.
