|
|
ive just got a 9500lc ultra and loving it
taking a while to get used to the new set up compared to my g70 but slowly getting there
i am having trouble with the green tube though. below pics are of both 60 contrast and 100 contrast of red and green
red and blue are tight and focusing beautifully
ive got the mechanical set up pretty dialled in but as soon i go over 50 contrast the green blooms heaps with even flare either side of the dots
green focuses fine scan lines at 1080p but just flares anything over 50
ive swapped neck boards, focus coils, g2 leads and video cable inputs on the neck boards but it still stays on the green
g2 is set right, irt happens when drive is either at 0 or 100
any idea what it could be?
fungus?
bad 2pole focus ring? (i didnt swap it supidly)
bad tube (heaven forbid)
tube is a p19lug new tube, neck board has been modded

Looks like its only the vertical lines that bloom Right? It might be something on the Focus board as it looks like a similar problem I had. Keep the contrast at 40 and ramp the focus up and down for each color and see if they focus and defocus the same. If the green acts a bit different it could be one of two op amps on the focus board or one channel of the op amp for the waveforms on the CLM. The only real way is to put the suspicious outputs to a scope. If you have another focus board or can borrow one swap it out and see if thats it.

I'm thinking it's the tube. I sold this set.
I talked to Tubular Outlet yesterday, they are sending me a new tube today, so I'll need to mount it, test it and let it set for a week. Should be on the way to you within 2-2 1/2 weeks. I'll pack it well, and will prealign it along with the plastic housing etc to make it easy to swap out.
Sorry, meant to email you yesterday, but ran out of time before I had to head out.
Cheers!

thanks curt
yeah, i think its a tube as well. apart from that the set is ace.
when the other tube comes ill frieght this one back.
mind you one of the heaviest crt units ive ever had to move. has to rope in 3 buddies to move the thing
thanks Athanasios, i ruled out the focus board by swapping the plugs and the flare was even on all sides of the dot. the focus isnt bad on the green, it just would bloom like a mother %$#

If you ever need to move it again, take the lenses off. That will take about 60 lbs/25Kg of weight off the set..

Could the cathode just be contaminated?
Maybe it's worth buzzing it with a Sencore.
The flare around could be electrons emitted from the edge instead of the middle.

No, it's a brand new tube, it's under warranty. I'm sending it back to the supplier.
