Hello,

I was lucky and just received two Sony RVP 4010 with 300 hours on the tubes. I will use them for a frontprojection side by side stack We have a great faq guide to change them to frontprojection here in Germany . That is easy because inside are the sony 1271 (with LC coupled 07msj tubes) build in. Even the limeted screen size of 1 meter (because of the LC Delta 88 lenses) can be changed by a mod of the lenses to focus on much bigger (any) screens. But there is no corner focus and my need to use unmodded lenses.
So, has anyone an idea what LC lenses I could use for these tubes, or how to modify hd 6ml or hd 144/145 lenses to fit my tubes? Or any other recommendations for that project are welcome!

Best regards

noos

Do an RP blend! That would be awesome.

No idea on the rest though.

If that rig is LC.. maybe HD-114 or 215's? Should be plenty of parted out Barco retros out there.

Hello again...

I could not get any lc lenses here like the hd117 or the hd215 (would also be ok because I am planning to use a curved screen and corner focus is not so important anymore) so I did some tests with the delta hd 88t lenses....

These lenses are strange!!! After modding them to focus on bigger screens then the typical RP sizes (you just have to remove the first lens of the lens assembly and put it on the curved glass of lc chamber) it now has a throw distance of about 1.0! That means with the lenses being 4,3 meters away from the screen, the projected image is 4,3 meter wide!
Now it gets spooky...
The bigger the picture becomes the more the picture degrades ont the right and the left side. When a test pattern with lines is projected, this shows at the lines on the both sides of the screen are very unsharp. And the bigger the picture gets the more does this effect increase (talking about far more than 2 meters)...
But I received two of these machines. One came with caps/covers for the lenses for the normal use in the RP (rearprojection) mode. These capes reduce the lense surface to 30 percent by covering the lens. Only in the middle is an open circle of about 2 inch diameter. Using this, I found out that the picture is not getting smaller but less bright, and the halo effects from the sides deceases!
Now I started to decrease the size of the circle more and more until only the size of a square of 0.8" x 0.8" was left. Now the picture is muuuuch sharper and for sure much darker. But in my basement that means 50 for brightness and 50 for contrast is ok, before it was 30 30.

Beside the negative effects of the lenses I really enjoy the big picture. With my 1272 and 701 I could only do 3,3 meters and now with the 88t lenses and the upright projector using the one build in mirror of the 4010 I can do close to 6 meter or normal projection (flat projector) without miror a bit more than 5 meter in the same room like before.

Has anyone any ideas about the lenses other lenses for this project you are very welcome to join...

Should the lenses be added to the official lens thread?

Greetings from Munich Germany

Ps.: I am not sure anymore that there are 1271 build in. I have a sony catalogue from 93 showing the same specs for the 4010 as for the 1271 like scanning frequency, 21 zones... But my 4010 only scan max. 1280xi1024 60 hz (about 64khz not 85khz) and only 9 zones convergence....what machine could be build in? I would love to upgrade to 21 zones and the higher bandwidh of the 1271, but I should know if these could have 1251 build in.

Just an update to finnish it....
HD-215 work for big pictures now (out of teh box compatible with the RVPs. If anyone wants better corner focus, the c-elements need to be changes to use other lenses.
