From the broken Blue tube video this is my theory.

The blue tube for some reason either had a bad HV arc or was just ready to break under the focus coil where you could not see a crack, it may have been just small enough to work for that short time while you were displaying the grids. In that time the heat made the crack more weak preparing it for its final dimise.
when you turned the set on after it being off the sudden shock of turn on blew the crack open under the focus coil, then the HV acr from in the tube travled into the focus coil wires to the Focus Board and possibly then arced to the other tubes and to the neck board through the Ground staps. That one bad weak blue killed the whole set, Id right off the FCM,the VNB, the HDM, and all tubes for sure along with their magnetics. To see if my theory is right you'll have to remove the focus coil off the Broken Blue tube open it up and pull out the coil assembly, its glued in. look for burn marks. that is one messed up PJ. First Time ever on a Marquee I bet .

Aren't there any nice guys donating him a nice 9500(LC)...or some parts that are just lying around to get him restarted?
....and give this sad story a happy ending after all?

Yepp looks like the tube was weak or a hair line fractur and when it broke it sent a surge through the whole Focus coil and on to other parts. you can see the soot on the inner plastic bobbin. Also the HV lead looks a bit coverd in soot.

All kidding aside, if that were my projector, I'd pull the tube assemblies for the couplings. Remove the top and bottom LC plates and the Vidikron cover. Then I'd find a suitable cliff to push the carcass off from. Then I'd start shopping for a working 8500 with worn tubes to build another 9"LC with. The only interest I'd have in that chassis would be to conduct a post mortem Crying or Very sad
Just the thought of dropping a new set of tubes in that chassis is enough to give me the willies. Shocked

yepp the only way to set it is to tear it down and if you have a schitty set with bad tube lying around start with putting in the boards from the dead machine to find out whats good or not, I bet the FCM is done, no need to even try to fix it .
HVPS and LVPS might still be ok if no back lash happened. I think it just shot the G2 voltages into the tube and through the focus coil tot he rest of the VNB's and FCM. the HDM,CLM might still be ok, the stuff on the back heat sink might be damaged as the Astig amp is on that and those cables connect to it so the runaway power surge may have gone through the Astig cables too.
that really sucks. One bad tube. But I wonder how it cracked or got the possible hairline fracture if my theory is correct.
Maybe it was a too tight a clamp from the focus coil?

I would love to know the history of this projector, especially where he got it from and in what condition. I've asked twice I think but have not been told.

Does it really matter where it came from Question
It is one of 3 Vision one's from Asia, someone else in my country bought the lot.
As far as I know the tubes were already in it.
After all a tube replacement would have been better, but there was no reason to do that in the first place

"Does it really matter where it came from"
Actually it does. There are many of us over the years who have come to know the "less than reputable" so called dealers who have come and gone and back again. They have taken peoples money and left them holding the bag. You've danced around the subject of the source of the equipment to long which in my mind raises to many flags. Good luck with your oversized paper weight. I'll no longer participate in this thread. I'm outta here.

I haven't read this whole thread, but I bought two Vision 1s from Asia last year. All had massive issues with them, glycol leaks all over the place, etc. It took a lot of work to get each one going, which offset the low price I paid for them, never mind the $800 shipping price for each to get them to me.

Ok, but you have the parts to repair them, cleaning them up wouldn't be my favorite job Laughing
I think I'm going to part it out and dump the useless stuff.
There is a green c-element, a wired plus IR remote with Vidikron on it and more as mentioned here.

No, not on this one.
But I'm still busy getting a set of Sony tubes shipped, they have a red and green on it.
Maybe my 1292 will be that good with these tubes that I keep it after all Rolling Eyes

Your best option is probably buying an 8500 chassis and mount the 9 " tubes on it, that should give you the same performance. I could test the parts on my testchassis, but probably that's a very big gamble, considering the damage it caused.

BTW, this is probably the worst crt dropout ever Shocked

1292 should give a stunning picture with good tubes...and perfect colors Wink

Maybe you think that I've got endless funding sources but believe me, after 2 9 inchers in one month and the extra parts needed I'm kind of broke Wink

Well, that's not what I thought..

Just wait for the right time to decide what you're going to do with it. And if you're keeping it, I just made a suggestion what's the cheapest way to fix it.

If not, let me know how much you would like for the casing Smile

If I remember correctly these were all part of the same deal, two shipped directly to you, the other two to Holland, replacement parts for the two 'Dutch' machines being part of the price Curt paid for his two units. Reinier was brought in to refurbish the machines. The first machine was fully refurbished, and sold (no public report of it failing), the second was partly refurbished, and recently sold to Andre. Read up on their history on www.htforum.nl;-). Don't think the guy who imported these ever mentioned the party selling them to him, perhaps Curt knows as he received two unit out of the lot.

Andre, je hebt de laatste tijd wel erg veel pech met buizen zeg, eerst de Sony's en de ECPs, sterkte. Toch maar weer de 1272 van de markt halen en weer gaan blenden;-).
