|
|
I installed a Dwin HD700 in my theater back in late 2001; it currently has 2673 hours on it. For the past 6 months or so, while viewing any source, the convergence will "go out" and and then correct itself after a few minutes. By that I mean if you pull up both the center convergence and the (whole screen) convergence menu, the red is shifted to the left and up and the blue is shifted to the right. All of the lines (of the "grid") being displayed seem to "shake". After a few minutes, it seems to correct itself. This "issue" will occur several/many times during a movie.
Then just the other evening when I powered the projector on, I heard what sounded like a "snap" which sounded to me like high voltage arcing. And once last night the projector powered itself off during a movie.
I've read the other threads in the forum; does this sound like a power supply problem or something else? Would a failing power supply cause the first problem (convergence "shift") as described above? Anything else I should do or look for?
thanks for any help/advice!

Have you ever cleaned any of the contacts of the boards since you put it into service 2001? I do not own a Dwin but as with any CRT projector regular cleaning of contacts and blowing out of dust helps them run cooler and more efficient. Curt is probbaly the only one here who can help, it sucks that dwin just closed up shop with noo way for owners to service their equipment and not ever publishing any service manuals.

THis sounds like two or three different problems. Snapping is HV arcing. Loss of convergence is a fault in the convergence section. The convergence issue is most likely on the motherboard which is a bit of a pain to get out. A few choices:
-Pull the motherboard and send it to me for testing/repair.
- Send the whole set up, and if it's not repairable, I'll put your tubes in a working set. I've got about 6 here in great shape.

And the Dwin is about the only CRT projector that is actually simple/cheap to ship, so that may be a good option.

boy oh boy....I dread taking that thing down and sending it but if that is my only option then I guess that's it. Did Dwn finally get you the service manuals? Can you provide details on shipping to you?
Thanks!!
