I've never seen curved screen like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Toshiba-Home-Theater-Movie-Projector-Screen_W0QQitemZ280244681205QQihZ018QQcategoryZ48655QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

Looks like it would make an awesome home theater screen.

That's a real torus. High gain without the hotspotting. Nice case.

I have a smaller Advent torus, but it's a little smaller. And it's only in a cardboard box, not a freight case. Free (no shipping... local pick-up only).

I'm going to copy the pictures here for future reference...

I didn't know Toshiba made screens. If it is like the Vutec UHG screen, then it would be a good local pick up. They say they will ship, but I can't imagine what the shipping prices would be. It probably won't sell, so a local guy like MarshallF should wait until the price drops to around $200.

Given that they made this:

...and this:

...and this:

...and this:

...I'm not terribly surprised at anything it turns out they make! Very Happy

Of course, they can't even hold a candle to Mitsubishi, who make both this:

...and this:

I sh*t you not. That, my friends, is what I call a broad product line.

Someone bought it. I hope this franklinsmith guy knows what he is doing and is local. The price is still good, but I believe he could have picked it up for cheaper the next go round.

Hi! Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm just curious what the benefit of a curved screen is? Why would one buy a curved screen rather than the typical flat one? Just trying to learn. Thanks, bye! Smile

These screens were originally designed for low light output projectors. They have a very high gain but very poor off axis viewing. I've had a few and they do work very well for 7" or smaller crt's. They have to be adjusted for your viewing angle and if you move you position it dims quickly but exceptable in an average HT room. The Sony 1020's use to come with a curved screen in a package kit. I had a 1020 with a 100 inch curved screen and loved it. It was nice and bright even with some room light on. I sold the ones I had before I had a higher output projector so I never tried one on a curved screen but some claim they cause hot spotting. But sometimes hot spotting is not as noticeable as enjoying a nice bright picture. Dont hold me to it but if I remember correctly they had a gain of like 10:1 to 15:1.

I also had a Poli-Vision setup (lets see how many know what that is) with a 5 ft curved screen that also worked very well for its time.
