I offered him $500 for the better one with local pickup. I wonder how much he sold it for?

As long as he's being accurate and fair with the descriptions then he's doing nothing worng.
Are you sure your not just feeling a little resentful that you didn't get the better one? |
No, I'm more resentful of not getting them both for $50 or less each.

They look worse than the tubes that I just replaced and they had done over 8000 hours

Parts machine!
Look at that green! I'll have peanut butter with that toast, please.
Yeah.... I'm with Dave - I'll go out on a limb and say that's 11,197 hours' worth for wear, and not 1,197.

Cool, that's what I wanted to know. I hope to get 10,000+ out of my little 9pg+ tubes with bright set to 35% and contrast to 45%. With my 2.4 gain screen with no lights on, it looks just fine to me. Is it possible?
Hour counters only go to 10,000 hours? I thought I'd seen pictures showing standby hours in the 30,000's on a marquee? It was a long time ago though.

It depends on the Machine, a G70 resets after 10k, a G90 changes the font color after 10k, Marquee keeps going, My old 8000 had 15k hours on it.

Hi,
Don't you feel a little greedy trying to sell it for over $650, when
you only paid $90 for it? I told you at the auction that you'd
never get $900 for it, but you didn't believe me, did you? And
what happened - no bids the first time you listed it. It's still
priced a bit high, by the way. You should start it off at about
$250, with no reserve and a buy it now of $600. Then you
might get someone to take a chance on it. And you'll still be into
some decent profit.

' ' It takes nerve to email a stranger and tell him he is greedy. Since when does the price you pay for something dictate it's value? It's worth what it's worth regardless. Why is his profit margin anyone's business but his own? His response was much more civil than mine would have been.
BTW, he sold the first one for $650 which I think is a good price for that projector even with some wear on the tubes. What would it have gone for 18 months ago?
People can argue that some of the newer higher end digitals are matching or exceeding the performance of a good 8" CRT but you'll still have to pay upwards of $6000 to get something that compares to a G70, which can be had for under a grand ( sometimes way under). It's amazing what you can get these days.

Actually, if you looked closely at the pictures of the tubefaces, you could easily see they were static image burned, NOT just worn. That first one was just as much a parts machine as this second one is....

Here's what my G90 looked like when it rolled above 10K:

Hi Clarence,
What are the condition of the tubes with 10,000 plus hours and what amount of wear do they have? Was the G90 originally set up with very low contrast settings? How do you account for the performance/condition of the tubes with so many hours?
