I'd say Marquee 8xxx series (8000/8111/8500).

All of them have parts available for them with no issues. Seriously, there's so many sets out there, and I have so much in stock that I'm not even buying sets for parts any more.

without a doubt the 8110/8500 marquee's. Most plentiful, most tweakable, and one of the most reliable.

I'd have had a heart attack if I heard you say anything other than that. Laughing Thumbs Up ...and I concur. (That would be like Dave telling us he has stock in Sony). Mr. Green

I have found that Sony's are quite plentiful, at least in my area.

I'd say Sony 12xx for 8" ES sets and the Marquee 8xxx for 8" EM.

But really as long as you don't end up with an obscure set you will have no problems getting parts or repairs if you need them. Stick to Electrohome, Barco, Sony, NEC, Ampro Shocked and you should be fine. If you get something like a DWIN, Seleco, or Mitsubishi you may have more trouble finding parts.

I agree, and if you should decide you want more it's quite straight forward to upgrade your machine from an 8500 to a 9500 Thumbs Up

So most Projectors, even sony have spare prts available curt? What does used CRTs run? I'm looking for an inexpensive unit that can be used extensively, with some movie watching, gaming use and even any PC ready units?

HEad over to the main site and read the FAQ and look at the list of sets for sale. As I said, I have piles of parts for almost eveyrthing but Sony G90s and Barco 909s at this point (and I'm sure I'll scrap a 909 by the end of the year.)

Barcos and Marquees are plentiful, Ampros a bit less so, but ampros are a bunch cheaper as the company is out of business for 10 years. I've stocked up on their parts, and even got a messload of their hard to find HVPS in recently, so I'm good to go.

Pricing will depend on whether you're buying from a dealer or an as is sale.

Figure on under $1500, usually under $1K if a set is sold as is by another CRT owner, under $500 if you're buying an unknown set on ebay, but chances are it will need tubes or modifications.

I sell the odd 8500 under $2K myself, fully gone through, crucial mods completed, a newly retubed set will run $2800-3K or so, a bit more even if I find a set of sharper P16 tubes. That comes with a warranty and full tech support, and that's what you're paying the extra $ for. Much like you buy a car off a private individual vs a car dealer that gives a warranty with the car.

I do not know of any Sony "dealers" here in San Diego but there seem to be twice as many Sony's on the used market than any other brand here. Unless you are interested in and capable of doing some work on one yourself, I would recommend buying from Curt. The service is great and you know that you are buying a good machine. I think either an 808s or an 8500 would be good choices.

Just remember that the 808s uses extremely hard to find tubes.

It all depends on how much you want to spend as well. I'd buy from Curt if you want a reliable projector with good support.

In the Chicago area Sony seem to be everywhere, could just be me tho. They seem to range from $100- $700 depending. I fell quite confidant that when I finish this theater and learn a bit more I ll get my NICE PJ from Curt.
