Are there any rules one should follow when building a floor stand for a CRT projector? I believe Zenith sold a tube type floor stand at one time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Make sure it is able to take the weight, make the base at least as large as the foot print of the projector for added stabitity and you may want to bolt the projector to the stand so it doesn't get bumped. When my Marquee was floor mounted it was bolted to a table and the table was bolted to the floor.

Thanks for the tips. Is there a formula or rule for the hight of the stand?

Ideally the projection angle should be as small as possible, ideal would be with the projector sitting right in the center of the screen. This however would likely put it right in your face. There is no real formula that I know of, just try to minimize the angle as it will result in less geometric correction on the tubeface and better focus throughout.

When doing table mounted front projection you want the projector level with or slightly higher than the bottom of the screen.
I have my Ampro setup in the middle of the screen with the back tilted up and a 0deg projection angle. Doug baisey(dbaisey) brought up a good point. He said with it setup like that the light from the screen gets reflected back into the lenses and affect's contrast. So ideally you want to set it up in line with the bottom of the screen using the recommended projection angle so the light that bonces off the screen hit's the ceiling not the front of your leses.

It makes no difference as the light will hit the lenses just as much at the center as if it where at the edge. Unless you use a high gain.
Btw the light hitting the lenses will hit the already lit up parts of the tube and reflect back at the right place again so it would give higher light output if anything. It would still be insignificant though. Unless your focus is way off but then the image projected would be unusable.
