So yesterday I was watching a DVD (Animusic 2):

PS3 HDMI 720P -> HDFury -> Faroudja NR Plus - 2 outputs

The Faroudja has 2 VGA outputs. One is HD-15 VGA connector which I had connected to a normal 19" NEC CRT monitor. The other output is 5-BNC which I had connected to my NEC XG135.

Here's the question:

On the small monitor, the background shadow detail was INCREDIBLE!
On the big projector, not so good...

The Faroudja is supposed to just pass the HD signal through according to the manual. The picture on the small monitor screams "Gamma Boost", it looks like the boosted images I see on this site. I don't have any gamma boost that I know of on any device I have. If the small monitor shows the detail is must be there in the signal, so why doesn't it show up on the big projector? Why are these 2 images so different, and will gamma boost help the big projector look more like the small monitor? I never tried gamma before...now I'm intrigued.

Tom

OT: CAn someone phonetically spell out Faroudja for me.

I have only read about it and haven't been around other geeks to say it out loud.

I say it like this...

Fair - ow - ja. Is this even close??

I always kinda thought it was 'fuh-ROO-juh'. But I don't travel in circles where people actually speak that name. It costs too much just to say it.

You guys will hate me for this, but the guy I bought the projector from GAVE me the Faroudja unit. Said he had no use for it any more without the projector.

I was living in Rutland for 10 years, but my employer moved HQ to Cincinatti so I decided to return to my hometown of Buffalo, NY. I bough Dennis's XG135 unit which I picked up in Toronto one Saturday last March during an outrageous snowstorm.
