If the neck board is bad, then can I change it out with the projector on the ceiling and just remove the back cover?

Might be a source or cable issue, you need to check the menu (but check for the blue glow top or bottom of tube first). |
I think what he is saying is that you need to rule out a source or cable issue before diving into the projector. It's worth a look but if you are like me then it's never anything that simple. If you can pull up the menu then check what signal it is syncing to and verify your settings in the "INFO" screen look correct. Another thing you might check is what Doug always recommends. Try connecting a composite video cable to the "VIDEO" BNC input on the projector to see if you get a picture that way.

It tells you the blue tube works.
It tells you the blue neckboard works.
It means the problem is signal related:
1. Source or Cables
2. Gain or Video Out board
The most probable failures are:
1. Cables/Source
2. Neckboard
3. Tube
4. Gain or Video Out board (trailing far, far behind)

I tried the menu, but not blue.
I have also tried to get secret access to the boards but am evidently missing something.
I have removed screws that I can find and see where there appear to be slots in the side to allow the boards to move vertically. But I have missed something somewhere. I have tried to follow Curts directions in his tips pages. Back to pulling more screws...

THe whole cage moves up vertically. THere are two tabs at the back that need to be slid towards the middle of the set to unlock the cage.

You have to "up and over" the cage, it's sitting in "J" slots.

I did get the cage open.
Curt, do the neck cards slide off the back of the tubes, or are there fasteners holding them on? I have tried pulling gently, but nothing budged.

They should slide off of the tube end exposing the fragile metal pins of the tube. I would say that perhaps more than "gentle" pulling is what is required but don't force it either. Grip the neckboard at the rear and pull steadily but don't twist it. When I did this I was removing a tube so that may have made it easier as the front housing was already loose and the whole thing was easy to move around.

THere's a clamp holding the neck board to the tube. Loosen the screw, and wiggle it off.

I believe it's the screw just peaking out from behind the metal shroud, lower left corner of this picture. I took lots of pics before taking my 110 and 852 apart.

Thanks Dropzone.
Another question. I have the card assembly loose. Just like your picture above. The connectors are disconnected except for one. All but what looks to be the ground wire. It has a philips head screw holding it to the card. Is there a special screwdriver bit I have to use to get it out? Or did someone just torque the heck out of it. My camera son't take closeups enough to show the screw head. I have had a heck of a time with screws dong this. It has a really flat head and a very short pattern. I am very close to stripping it. It is hard to hold the card and try to unscrew it.

We know that screw well. Its the first thing to loosen... the next time
Just a #2 magnetic phillips but a long shaft 16" helps alot. If it strips use side cutters to loosen first point tip straight into it. (wire cutters) then take out with the phillips.
If you loose a screw be sure to find it. If it is really messed up use one from the sheet metal covers until you can replace. Its the same.

Doug,
How on earth do you get wire cutters up in there? I can hardly get my hand in there  
I have even tried grinding down the point on a screw driver to get the most "bite" on the head. I'll try your suggestion on wire cutters or my trusty vice grips. I take it it is not a good idea to try and drill out the head?
