OK everyone I wanted to share my experience after I connected a Toshiba HD D1 high definition DVD player to my Zenith PRO851X CRT projector. The player was set at 480i with a composite video connection. The picture and color reproduction was outstanding. I actually saw the de-interlacing when I was near the screen. The only explanation I have is that the throughput of the DVD player is higher than 480i and the de-interlacing circuitry of the projector yielded a progressive scan picture at the maximum resolution which I suspect is much higher than 480i. What are your thoughts?

Hello
If the Zenith will support 1080i by component, that should look better still. Taking 480i out of an HD DVD player is like driving a Ferrari on regular gas and cheap tires, the potential is totally choked.

Yep, you are seeing a standard definition(480i) picture via composite video. I would have to say that you are easily impressed  Just wait until you see a calibrated HD picture from a higher end model of projector.

I will say though, having had an 851 myself, many years ago, that it did produce a pretty nice picture, even at 480i.
