I just got a 1292 and I began setting it up using Graham's DVD.

I had just finished centering and maxing out the rasters on all three tubes using the size and zone controls. After that I did the toe in.

I noticed that the edge of the cross hairs didn't extend to the edge of the raster. I figured this was normal, but I wanted to know how wide the image would be if ran to the edge of the rasters. I'm projecting onto a wall that I will be painting with Buhr UPW paint.

Because of this I decided to hook up a source at 1080p. The first one I tried was my xbox 360, followed by my computer. Both were connected via VGA cables to a breakout cable to the 5 BNC connectors on the back.

As soon as I hooked up either source, several things happened. The size of the raster shrunk a little and the image was cut off on the right and left. Blankening had been already turned off. The vertical and horizontal values or 'size' were changed slightly despite having saved my previous work to all memory blocks. I also tried shrinking the size of the image within the raster using 'RGB size' but it seemed to shrink the raster size along with the image size because I couldn't get the entire image to be displayed at once. Using 'RGB shift' I could see one side of the image the had been chopped off by chopping off more of the other side. When the computer was hooked up, the left side that wasn't chopped off was "wrinkled". Thats the best word I can think of. Basically the brightness varied significantly forming brighter and darker vertical bars.

So am doing anything wrong here? I know that the sony 1292 can display 1080p so I don't know why I can't get the entire image onto the raster at once or why when I impute a signal it changes my 'size' setting even though I saved them for all imputes. Thanks in advance!

I think the internal test patterns are bigger than an externally sourced image will be. I ran the internal patterns right out to the edge of the phosphor and the setup dvd's were right where they needed to be, slightly inside the edge. (on the sony's)

You should be able to get the image to be bigger than the cross hair but just under the size of the raster in order to maximize phosphere usage.

As a quick update: I was playing around with switching between resolutions on the 360. The projector would display the image of other resolutions within the raster. When I switch to 1080p the image would be displayed correctly for 1/2 a second before shifting so that the sides where chopped off. Sometimes when I switched to 1080p, the display turn into a flickering grey mess for about 2-3 seconds before properly locking onto the 1080p signal.

So now the image is properly fitting within the raster but I still don't know why the raster shrinks when I have a signal going to the pj. I think that I am going to recenter and re max the raster on all three tubes with the projector receiving a signal. Then save that for all memory blocks. If it is going to change as soon as I send it a signal then I want it to change to, not from, the proper setup.

It was pretty well-known that that the 1080p timings on the 360 were dorked. I don't know that I heard they ever got fixed. I believe the porches were too small - which is probably also the problem with your HTPC. You may have to increase the porches slightly.

Regardless, you definitely don't want to set the projector up based on an external input - for the aforementioned reason. You don't know that the input signal is good, bad, or necessarily representative of all the sources you'll be using.

Just set the machine up just like you did the old 1252 - with no external input first, and only THEN worry about your external sources.

Makes sense. I'll just ignore any sources untill I do the astig which Graham suggests doing with a source connected. Thanks,

The internal patterns will sync to any external source you connect. The test pattern will then be at that rez.

If you stuff 1080p into it. The test pattern will be 1080p and the same widths the source.

If you are intent on using the 360. Then leave it connected all the time and use the internal pattern and normal.
