|
|
Hi to everybody,
about 1 year ago I bought a 1996, low hours (about 1,5k), Marquee 8500 AC; it worked with no problem until 2 days ago, when I watch a whole film and, as usual, turned it off.
Yesterday evening, when I turned it on, can't have any picture from the projector, internal test images included. When I turn on the projector, it sounds normally, I can see filaments on the back of each tube going orange, back panel shows no warning, but still I have no picture. I tried a full reset from the chassis with no results.
The projector is connected to a PS3 via HDMI and Moome internal card at 1080i.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

I saw your post on avs..
This could be a whooolllle lot of different things.
1) HVPS
2) LVPS
3) CLM
4) VIM
5) HDM
6) one bad neck board on the back of each tube.
7) Bad HV connector under the red tube.
Here's details on what the above terms mean:

If you have another set that you can swap parts from, great, if not, feel free to send me the parts and I'll test/repair whatever needs doing.
I'd reseat all boards first as well to see if a bad connection is causing this, Marquees are known for bad module connections.

Yes, this sudden fault made me impatient . Anyway, I was just waiting for your expertise before doing anything...

Is there any way to restrict the field, other than trying to replace each module/component (I have no other set to swap parts from...)?
Thanks very much, Curt.

Unfortunately no. Luckily I have a messload of parts, so what I'd do is send me the HVPS and HDM (most likely fault), and the VIM.
Oh, pop the front cover where the HVPS is, and put your head close to it. If you hear a ticking sound, the HVPS is toast and needs to be replaced.
If it doesn't tick, it can still be bad.
If I check those here, I can send you back some of the other boards.
About all you can do is disconnect the neck boards completely one at a time, and wiggle that HV connector under the red tube if you can access it. Everything else needs to be tested in a working set, or to be swapped out.

Ok Curt, I will follow your advice. Tomorrow I'll try to reseat each board and make the simple checks you suggest. If I will be unsuccessful, I'll send you the parts for repair.
Thanks again.

I resume this old post for another question. I found on ebay a cheap 8500 in good working condition, and so I was able to swap components whit my ceiling-mounted unit: the broken component was the HVPS.
The question: I use a remote-controlled plug to turn off the VPJ when not in use; is it safe or could it, in someway, have determined HVPS failure?

Did you switch off the plug before shutting down the machine with the remote, if so than this could have been the cause of your problem or at the least unneeded wear and tear on the machine. If you switch the Marquee off before you switch the outlet you should be fine.
I would also make sure you have an extra HVPS on the shelf so you can get back going again if the new one eventually fails.

I think most would agree that the HVPS and the LVPS are the most failure prone components in a Marquee 8xxx.
Yes?
No?
Not really trying to start a poll, just my observations from reading here for a few years.
My 2 cents,
Gary

In my case it's been Focus Modules. I've been through 2 of them whilst the HVPS and LVPS have been working great. (Watch. Now having said that all the magic smoke will fly out tonight when I go to play some GTA IV).

I decided to do a full tilt boogie recal on my Marquee 8500. I tore it down to the fans, and cleaned everything. I scrubbed all the connectors with contact cleaner, and reseated all the chips. Put it all back together and checked the LVPS voltage. All is OK. One problem - no picture! I reseated all the cards. I reseated both power supplies. No go. Just before panic set in I remembered the P14 connector. Sure enough - I forgot to reinstall the connector after I checked the LVPS. Duh. It works fine now, and I can even see scan lines at 1080i after doing a setup using Bill Blue's Magnetic Setup instructions.
