I have a Sony CRT VPH-1271, it's developed a problem and displays error code 02. I left it for a week or so and it started back to life, but again after a few weeks it's gone back to this lattest error. I don't know much about these things and I live in Brisbane Australia. Does anybody knwo where I can take it too, or what the error maybe commonly attributed too? Thx.

Code 02 means Horizontal stop, 100volt line down.
Have you checked the fuses in the power supply?

Since your problem is somewhat intermittent then its possible it could be a poor solder connection. First places to look would be on the E board at the Horz output or vicinity.. Secondly on the Pa board. After that, happy hunting.

I pulled the cover off the unit and hinged open the DC or vertical board and pulled out the DD and DE boards and played around with the horiz sync above these boards ( http://www.curtpalme.com/Sony125x_Layout9.shtm ). I put it all back together and Voila, it came back to life. We watched a movie for about ten min. and I could see the screen flicker and the sides of the screen move in and then widen back out. Then all of a sudden out she goes and back to error code 02. Any leads on this?

02 means H-Stop 100v power down
You have said it worked for 10 mins then went all wonky this is the intermittent nature of a dry joint.
As another member has said, check the E board for dry joints on all transistors that bolt to the heat sinks down either side, you may have to remove the PCB from the metal work (a few multi plug nothing to bad) to gain access to some transistor legs as metal covers them up, leave the heatsinks attached to the PCB just handel with care.
The big long center heat sink with small 40mm fan is made up of 2 heatsinks held together with metal fan bracket one end and metal fixing at the other end, these need to be removed to aid PCB removal if that easier for you to do.
I recently had the same issue with my 1271 and it was a dry solder joint, every time I pressed the middle of the E PCB gently (with end of biro pen so it did not zap me) the PJ would fire up as soon as I let go it would come up with 02 error and shut down, easy repair if you can solder.
Also worth checking the DC board next to it as this also had lots of dark rings and cracks around the transistor legs solder joints.
This should cure it.

Check also the white connector block under the Red lens behind the power supply.
Try unplugging and re-plugging.
Can't hurt...

I just want to thank everyone involved in helping me sort out the intermittent error with my CRT. We found that the E Board had a intermittent fault and we located the area just by tapping the components with a plastic spachelar. Once we loacted the general aea, we just touched up all the joints with a soldering iron and it fixed it. So thanks again guy's. You helped me to locate the board in question and gave me some ideas of what to do. Regard's, Mark.
